Anyone Tried Smoking/Drying Chantrelles?

Was BS'ing with a couple guys at work about going mushroom picking and how to dry them. I mentioned that I have a dehydrator and a Bradley smoker. One of the guys said the smoker should work quite well with just the "burner" on, and why not add a little smoke at the start (maybe just a puck or two)?I'm pretty sure I have alder, hickory and mesquite. Can't seem to find any info online, but think this might add a nice flavor.
What do you think? Worth a try?

Yes yes yes. I use them in a white sauce over pasta. Now I am hungry again.

What would be the best wood to try from what I have on hand? Thinkin i might go for a hike on Sat and see what i can find

I used apple but next try will used something stronger.
