first thought i was hearing whooping cranes, then the clouds moved to reveal hundreds of speckles flying way over head. got a picture on my phone of a group closest to me, there is about 70 in this small group.

i find this neat cause i didn't think many made it over this far!
the sound is way different then honkers
looks as they where all heading for the outer coast of the island

We got a few lst year up in the valley. It sure is neat to see the big flights of them going overhead though.

It was also mentioned to me by another fellow here in Port
then I found this on line about Sandhill cranes

"In Canada, the greater majority of cranes migrate through the central prairies and winter in the southern states. In BC, cranes pass through the central interior, migrating between wintering areas in Texas and nesting areas in the bogs and marshes of Alaska and the Yukon. Along the coast, migrant cranes pass over Vancouver Island and the Queen Charlottes. In the Lower Mainland, we see small migrant crane flocks during the fall and winter stopping for brief visits to the Sanctuary or nearby fields of the Fraser River Delta."

sure sounded like speckles but I guess was cranes they where so high up there, considering I was at 3400ft and that picture was zoomed.

Learned something today!

There are only two things in this world that I have ever known as "double-ender"
ones a tuna boat
the other is a lesbian couples best friend

never a bird, just sayin

X3: I heard some cranes a few days ago while fishing out there but couldn't spot em through the trees. However I did see a nice flock of about 100 specs flying surprisingly low over Nanaimo a week or so ago...gets the blood pumpin!
