Well so far 2013 has been pretty good to me, I've put the more physical effort into hunting this year than any other, yet probably the least amount of time. The results have been success.

The season started for me with a region 7 fly in sheep hunt. Headed in on July 30th, hiked for 2 days. Opening day started kind of late, but in the 2nd basin we glassed we spotted this guy, put a nice stock on him and a couple of his buddies. Ended up watching the group for a couple of hours at about 140 yards. He's not the largest ram, but a nice respectable 9.5 years old and well past full curl.

All in all my sheep hunt lasted about 4 hours, and it could have been a lot less if I didn't spend so much time just admiring the rams doing their thing. a day later I was waiting at the side of the lake for my ride home. The weather this year was excellent, couldn't have asked for anything better, the only problem were the bugs.

A few weeks later my girlfriend and I went for a nice mountain hike. The plan was to scout some goat country for later in the fall since I wanted a nice late season billy. We were taking our time enjoying the nice weather and scenery, as we sat down for lunch I peeked over a little ridge and spotted two goats playing. One was a young billy, the other however looked really nice. I decided to see if we could get closer to have a look and see if it would be worth coming back in early October. Took a while to find the goats again as we had to cross a few ridges. Once I got a better look at him, and saw he was in a great spot, I decided I had to take a crack at him. A big mature billy was on my bucket list so I couldn't pass up this opportunity. Anyways after a short stalk, 1 shot from my .300 win mag toppled him and he proceeded to fall down the wrong side of the mountain. Fortunately he hung up on a flattish part of a much larger slide. It was a hell of a pack out, but the grueling 19 hour day was well worth it.

Neither wanted nor famous, just trying to keep my spots from being such.

great job. What are you thinking for mounts?

Most likely both will be shoulder mounts. After the fact with the goat I thought of maybe doing a 1/2 mount with the feet tucked under the animal as I didn't keep the lower legs. The Taxidermist is going to tan the hide and see how it'll fit on a 1/2 mount hide before I make a decision.

Well the freezer is pretty full at the moment, but I'd like to help someone out with a moose and get a quarter or half of a moose. If I shoot one myself I'll be giving most of the meat away. Of course I'll be supplementing the freezer with grouse/ptarmigan and some hare throughout the winter.
