What are our odds of seeing white-tails in the Logan Lake area? We have a trip planned in October and I know Tunkwa's ad in the reg's mentions white-tails and muleys but I'm curious as to if that is what people "on the ground" have noticed or if we'll mainly be looking for bucks (of any species)? Any advice through the thread or pm'ed would be valuable and appreciated. Really though I just want to know what species are we more likely to encounter.
Thanks in advance.
PS: I know some have been concerned lately about honey-holes being given away so if you just want to PM me that's fine too. ;-)

thought everyone knew that tunkwa is the place to go for all big bucks.

No animals at all (or fish for that matter) in the Logan Lake area. ;-)

Sigh! This is what I thought might happen. I'm not wanting to have people suggest if this is an area over-run by deer and then have some other hunter complain that their honey-hole has been wrecked (as if that would ever happen here?) but rather get a sense of what the chances are of us encountering whiteys. My experience in region 3 has mainly been with muleys so I'm curious about assertions made regarding whiteys in the area.

I'll not mention any specific areas, but I wouldn't go up into that area without both tags.

I saw a few whitetails in Lytton this weekend. If they are there they are in the logan lake area. For $15 I would buy a tag just in case. BHB

I have seen whiteys all around Tunkwa. Stick close to the resort and on the power lines and you will run into them.

There is no good reason to not have a W/T tag when hunting region 3. Good luck.

Camp in the area lots. Take my son up there for youth season every year, people tell me they see whities around there but I have never seen them in the area. I have seen them further up the highway (Helmer) and lower down the highway (toll booth) but never in the Logan Lake area.

They are there. They seem to be in small pockets like along the power lines. But don't be fooled to just look low for them The one in my Avatar was way up high

Plenty around, but you have to know where to find em, I know lots of folks myself included who go up there just for whiteys.

The power lines north or south are good, I personally prefer south.

If you are going up when the wt doe season is open, it's a no brainer to carry one. Great eating animal and you will kick yourself if you DON'T have one....

Good luck on your hunt.

Cheers

Thanks, all. I definitely will be carrying both tags. I like w/t's and am secure enough in my masculinity that I don't mind eating the tenderloins from an anterless animal, be it whitey or muley. ;-)

Checked out the Logan Lake /Tunkwa /Face lake area Wed. and Thurs. last week. Saw 16 muley does and fawns, 4 of the does had twins. 1 whitetail doe with twin fawns. 2 mule deer bucks (both 2 points so not open yet). Mostly drove the roads looking for any sign. Hiked a few times into likely looking areas but saw nothing while hiking. I will say it was very warm out and what we did see were mostly between 6 and 7 pm. As others have said I would make sure you had both whitetail and muley tags in that area.

like others said, you'd be crazy "not" to have both tags with you.
you just never know what will jump out in front of you.

more and more, when i'm hunting mulies i'll see some flags bouncing through the trees.
