Grouse Luck

yesterday (9-14-2013) me my dad and my brother headed up to princeton for the day. The place we went was Placer 20 mins up placer Boom! first grouse down (spruce) 5 mins later Boom! second grouse down (rough) but then my brother gets his 4-10 and takes a shot at another grouse. Now we have 3 down about 10 mins later Boom! another grouse down (huge rough) then my dad gets the 4-10 and misses the second one so now we have 4 down 3 for me and 1 for my brother. then we headed over to Sunday Summit to see if we could get a deer or more grouse but nothing so we headed home. The huge roughed grouse was 4 1/2 pounds and so we cleaned them and they are now ready to eat:mrgreen:

ruffed grouse or blue grouse how can you tell which is which?
Wow 4.5 pounds is trophy size for a ruffled. Was there water around?

blue grouse are really really big kind of like a small turkey. there was a creek at the bottom of the valley but now up high

do the blue grouse have any bright color on the head in hunting season?
I think ruffs do like water a lot.
You hunters did real good must have been exciting by the sound of it
