as a resident of the west kootenays and someone that has harvested some trophy elk in the last few years, i am someone that can see this happening. u will see the numbers way down this year. the animal numbers have been decimated. this is the fourth year of the season and just by talking to the butchers the number of bulls taken is astronomical. not to mention all the wt does taken and the any buck mule deer season. n top it off people are seeing more wolves and cougars. give out leh again, n give out lots of them. guys that know how to kill elk will still get them and guys that drive around bugling out there truck windows will still have fun to.

there is poor management of all animals all over southern bc but as long as people keep buying every tag they can, putting km on there trucks and pumpin money into the government and the oil companys what will change. (nothing)

We know there are issues with the buck to doe ratios for mulies in some areas......but how were the elk bull to cow ratios? They did some inventory work last year so some data should be available.
Generally, there is no concern having a 6pt GOS with elk. Having said that, the West Kootenays can produce 6 pt bulls at a younger age....so they were trying to keep an eye on the ratios to make sure they don't fall below their management objectives.

Coffee shop talk is just talk. Let's talk numbers to find out what is .....or what isn't the issue.
