Nice piebald doe. If I had the chance I would shoot it but not just because it is piebald.

Sure! I don't think discrimination is nice. Everything is the same-even if it is different!

Hello all. My name is Pete, and I recently moved to Courtenay.
Lived and hunted the South Island for 16 years and just finished a "LONG" 5 year stint in Burnaby.
Ask me how happy I am to be back on the Island !
I was curious as to the name "piebald" where it came from, or what it means.
Here are a few more pics of the same deer.

piebald (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piebald):
A piebald is an animal, especially a horse, that has a spotting pattern of large white and black patches. The colour of the horse's skin underneath its coat may vary between black (under the black patches of hair) and pink (under the white patches). The colouring is generally asymmetrical. Many animals also exhibit colouration of the irises of the eye that match the surrounding skin.

No, I dont shoot any does, and a deer as rare as that should be admired by anyone that has the great fortune of seeing it.I think it would be very easy for most hunters to pass on that doe and harvest another one.

BHF,
The question is would you dump that deer if it was a monster buck like that big white muley that they got all the pics of this year down in Meeker CO. 180+ typical and pure white. It was legit, no photoshop deal. If you saw a buck like that would ya dump it or would ya let it walk so others good enjoy it. Don't forget that the scenerio is he is 40 yards away, standing still and only giving you the THS.
