She's pretty much grown up on HBC.....mostly as a retriever and hunting companion. Her passion for the outdoors and animal knowledge is only matched by her ear-to-ear smiles.

She turned 10 in late November last year...a little too late to get her CORE done but she easily passed this spring with flying colors.

So with the youth season approaching we found ourselves heading into the hills to hopefully find her first buck.
We managed to find a few bucks the day before the opener and found one buck late in the evening that drew out att'n.
http://www.huntingbc.ca/photos/data/500/DSC01107.JPG

By 5am we were out of bed and quickly got ready to head back to the same area as we found the buck the evening before.
Just as we were getting ready to leave Calvin rolled into camp to give us a generous helping hand.

As we approached the area I looked back and caught the form of a nice buck feeding unaware of our presence. We bailed out and Jamie immediately asked how far it was. I quickly ranged the buck at 175 yards but said she wasn't comfortable shooting at that distance so we started making our way up the road just as Calvin was pulling up the rear and was trying to get our attention. He too had seen the buck, in fact, he had seen 2 different bucks.....a 4x4 and a 3x3. Calvin knew we had a view of the buck from further up the road and soon we were able to cut the distance to 106 yards.
With a good solid rest Jamie squeezed off a round from her 7mm-08 and the buck immediately jumped and kicked. Calvin said he saw the bullet impact a little behind the front shoulder and with the buck quartering away we were confident we would find the buck a short distance away.
After a short wait, Jamie picked up the blood trail and we soon found her buck just inside the timber's edge.:-D

So, I would like to introduce a new member to HBC.....SnowshoeSniper (SsS)!

Congrats SsS! You have one proud Dad!

Well, I better make a post! Thank you everyone, really means a lot to me, first claimed buck on opening day! Got one last year on the first day we went out, just after I had turned ten. Never found it until a few days later, and a cougar had got to it before us, and the meat was nearly gone. My day got the antlers though! I definitely am excited to get out on the weekends for some whitetail hunting, and perhaps some more muley hunting in region four. Also, I wanted to thank Kelvin as well for spotting the buck I took, and also for helping skin it and bring it back up to the road. Once again, thank you everyone for the congrats and praises about my deer! :-D

Was good to have both of you as partners. You both add fun into the mix!

Ourea Thank you very much, I have never really been commented on such, I will be sure to post more in the future! I see my dad as someone to look up to, he knows a lot more about hunting then I do. Heck, the spot the buck was in, the night before I didn't like the area, guess I lack in patience! :-D

Aside from being an avid reader, SsS also likes to write short stories and has been doing that for a few years already. Don't know many kids her age that can sit down and pound out a few thousands words in a few hours. Her other knick name is "verbal"...communication specialist:-D.

Congratulations!

SnowshoeSniper, make sure you enter our fall hunting contest. Usually some good youth prizes to win! :)

I'll be sure to remind SsS to enter the contest when the time nears.

Speaking of youth prizes, we both need to re-thank Marc and HBC for the calendar picture youth contest that "we" won a few years ago. We put the winnings towards a Vortex diamondback scope that now sits atop SsS's Remmy Model Seven. 8) It's a sweet little set up!
Also need to thank those who offered up the reduced load for the rifle....Gate and Bartel!:)
