Thinking about an Elk/Mule deer hunt in the Lumby Region. Would I be wasting my time. How are the numbers doing these days.

Not wasting time for mulies and whitetail, not sure about elk though. In the Christian valley you can find them, not too far from lumby.

Not for elk. Mulleys yes, but only where the whitetails are not plentiful.

You could try the Kettle, not a slam dunk by any means though, best word for me would be Dismal.

Great for mule and whitetail. As far as elk if you go up the kettle you can call some in, my brother in law got a really nice one up there, but there are a lot if people up that way!

The numbers are god awful. Same problem you're seeing on the Island. Every camp I drive by on my quad has does/cows/fawns/calves hanging on their meat poles.

did one little hunt to the area last year. ridiculous amount of whitetails in lumby/cherryville on private land. Never saw anything on the open side of the fence though. Good bear sign up high.

lots of crown land where the whitetails are transiting from the hills to the fields. Just have to get out of the truck just off the main roads and they are moving en mass it seems

Yup Albers is good for both spieces, make sure you have a moose tag as well in that neck of the woods.
As far as elk go, anywhere past cherryville both sides of the highway. May take a bit of searching but they are there.

No go for Albers road. hear its close to hunters :)
either way all roads in lumby get heavy pressure but primarily by guys driving the road hoping for one to jump out. I started doing that last year as i had just moved here. Once i learnt the area just got out one day and walked in about 100 ft and there were deer everywhere. needless to say got a deer within an hour. did the same a week later same spot 1 more deer down in the freezer :)

Iv lived on sugar lake road out in Cherryville for 2 years. Iv never seen any elk till yesterday. I stopped counting at 17.. They were really large and in no hurry to get out of the way of my truck!! I see and have to avoid many whitetail and the odd mule driving sugar lake road every day. I think this hunting season will be a good one.
