OK, let me re-phrase that. I'm not mounting a rifle on the ATV, although if I could get a .50 cal it would look pretty cool.

What's the consensus? Scabbard or a rack? I've used the scabbard before on a borrowed quad and liked it because of the protection it affords, but my rifle (Featherlite .308) get's exposed to all kinds of weather when I walk, so I'm not too worried about exposing it to the outdoors.

All input appreciated. Thx!

the .308 should be "three-oh-ate" not 30smiley! :-)

If just slowly driving looking for critters I just use handlebar grips and if its snowing or raining I cover it with a plastic rifle case. For longer journeys I put it in a side mount hard case.

I have both. Depending on the area I hunt and the weather, dictates which one I use. I prefer the rack as mine is a double and I often bring a .22 and Big game rifle if I'm road hunting. but If i'm going through a tight trails in the dark to get into a spot I use my Kolphlin Gun Boot.

I use a Kolpin Scabbard mounted backwards on the left side of the bike. This way you can reach accross with your right hand and draw it much like you would a pistol.

I have both, rack mount and a boot :) depending on weather and what i'm doing, most of the time one for the 410 and the other one is for my rilfe

I use a Koplin Gun Boot 6 (which is a little bigger than the earlier boots). The front rack mount doesn't really work for my quad (Kawi Brute Force). If it's too far back the handle bars hit the gun and if it's forward there's no room to rack a deer. I'm not planning on jumping off my quad and bagging a deer. They're way to spooked by quad engines to hang around.
