While training the other day for a backpack goat hunt I realized the socks I was planning on bringing might not be the best choice. They are a wool blend but I think they might be a bit too heavy cause my feet got super wet from sweat. So now I'm trying to find a better lighter weight backpacking sock.

What's your go to sock setup for happy feet?

I prefer to use a mid weight (not too heavy) merino wool sock with a thin liner sock that wicks moisture away and an addition layer for blister prevention.

Check out the driWear socks at Marks Work. I bought a driWear t-shirt and tried it out hiking in hot weather. Liked it so much I went back and
bought another one plus a couple of golf shirts.
Reasonable priced.

I really like the thin Merino wool socks from
"Kirkland", Costco has them quite often here in Kam.
$12 for pack of 4 I believe.

I use a windsock because it doubles as a condom

IceBreaker Merino mid weight socks work best for me. Comfy, no stink, and they'll dry out pretty quick in a light breeze.

Costco merino wool, best sock for the buck, 4 pairs for $11.99, can't touch that.

smartwool is the fav. weight and size depends on the time of year. The wife says it's like walking on pillows.

I think its that they are proportional to the distance between your elbow and your wrist.

OR

That a guy with big feet wears big socks. Cant remember which one it is.

Thought it had something to do with the Size of the Smile on his Girls face..

I recently used the brand "Point 6". Got them at Wholesale Sports in Kamloops. I did some huge hikes in them and they were perfect. No stink, dried very quickly, and no blisters.

LOL X2 and fair prices too. I'll be wearing both First Lite Merino and the Costco ones on the early season elk hunt in the coming couple weeks and will report back on the pros cons and value for money equation when I get back.

I've got a bunch of those Costco socks and I do think they are great. However I'm thinking those will be a little too heavy for my early season hunt. I think I'll try to get a thinner wool blend sock or go with a polypropylene liner. I'm gonna head to mec and see what they'd reccommend.

I just picket up some smartwool socks recently. The pretty girl at the store talked me into them.

Check out Bass Pro Shop online.

They have a heavier sock called the "Redhead" and they're excellent. They are pricey, about $12 per pair but they have a lifetime warranty that if you wear them out they replace them. Super comfortable and breathable.

I was turned onto these a few years back and every time I make my way to AB or my sister comes out from there pick up a new pair. They are my ONLY work and hunting sock now and I'm on my feet all day every day. Doesn't matter if it's summer or winter, they're awesome.

Just my 2 cents.

Anyone have some suggestions for a lighter weight sock. I find mid weight merino a bit too warm in the early season.

rocked a couple pair of darn tough and a couple pair of wigwams this past week. After walking through a creek with boots on, my feet were sloshing wet but still warm all day long with the wigwams.

Hmm I need to try this because I often get blisters.

Wigwam socks from Marks, and Fox River hiking socks, no smell, no blisters. I was very impressed with my socks that were a birthday gift from BRValley, along with the other gear he got for me...
