Hello folks. Again with question. I am having trouble sorting through piles of GPS software for android-based devices, like ipads and smartphones and tablets. Most if not all of apps are just junk, even good ones are geared towards navigating in the city, with constant feed of map from the internet. Is there a good software that will work stand-alone without connectivity and would show not only roads, but also plot my foot tracks? I have a bluetooth GPS receiver, little thing the size of pendant, I would really like to use what I have instead of having to buy a separate GPS unit. Suggestions please.

Avenza PDF maps, best app money can buy for free (cost money for apple but is still free for android). We use this app for forestry work, currently have at least 15 tablets in use by our crews and clients. This app allows you view georeferenced PDF maps and will show where you are on that map at all times, pretty much all maps produced by ArcGis will be georeferenced. The BC government has georeferenced PDF maps that you can download for free that cover the entire province. You can install the file that is provided on the website and use Google earth to navigate and select the mapsheets you want. These maps are light on roads unless they are really old but, show the important stuff, alpine, lakes, streams and contours. Enjoy!
