Looking to get a scope that is on the cheaper side for my ruger 10/22. Can't seem to get accurate enough for grouse head shots after 40+yrds.
Figured this might be the best spot to ask as it seems more like a new hunter question.
Thanks in advance

I've got a Leupold VXII 2x7x33 on mine 10-22 It is little more expencive than many other units, but it's worth it. Have you done any mods to your trigger/action. It makes a huge difference in it's shoot-ability.

Look for some quality used items here and on Gunnutz. I got mine for $200

The mods can be done by anyone with a minimal mechanical inclination. Have a read on www.rimfirecentral.com I've got my trigger down to a even 2lb and it cycles even the softest rounds no issues.

I'm running a Tasco 2.5-10x42 target scope on mine, on one hand its a cheap piece of @#%& but on the other hand its working pretty well for a $100 ish dollar tube and hasn't given trouble in 1000+ rounds of high recoiling .22LR long range precision shooting.:-D Get a tuffer buffer or other polymer bolt stop to take the jarring slap out of the action and any optics will surely appreciate it long term too.

Both of these scopes have proven good results on Ruger 10/22s for around $200. The Nikon is actually a rimfire scope, but both have parallax adjustment down to under 10 yards.

Get a "match sear" online for your trigger, makes it smoother and tons lighter for about $30. You can find several good mods for mini dollars on the net, the 10/22 is a dream to customize.

I have a Ruger 10/22 as well - and had terrible accuracy problems with the original Tasco I put on it. It was a complete waste of time. I picked up a Leupold VX-1 rimfire 2-7x28mm and it's not even close to how much better this scope is.

I know this has been said before on this forum and I now believe it ~ better to put a $300 scope on a $100 rifle, than the other way around.

I've got everything from $50 Tasco's to $300 Leupolds on my numerous rim fires.
The rimfires are everything from 50 year old Mossbergs to 10/22's to high price CZ's.
The $50 Tasco works just fine on my 10/22 for grouse hunting.
My suggestion, try a $50 scope, see how it works for you before you spend big $$.
Buy the scope @ CT and take it back if you don't like it, no risk involved.

I just got this Nikon scope and I can't complain. The glass is really clear.

I would say the same thing, except I would set the dollar value a bit higher; maybe around $80. The extra $30 should get you 40mm (brighter) and a bit sharper image.

You can get a 3X9X40 by Bushnel for about $50 and change at WSS in Kamloops.

I got a Vortexx Crossfire from Nechako Outdoors in PG. $149 I think. Great glass. Really happy with it.
