Nikon Monarch. Not entry level by any means, there are better, but bang for buck they're right up there.

Zeiss has the new entry level models out that fit that price range. They are probably your best bet by far.

I have a Nikon Monarch 10x56 that I got for $400 on sale. Regular price is around $475 - $ 500. Awesome glass for the price. A little heavy but the larger objective lenses collect so much light, really useful at first and last light. Makes it seem like it is full daylight. If I am hiking and weight is a consideration I carry a Pentax 10x42 which cost around $250. I really like it as well, especially considering the price.

Look for good used ,usually save 40-50% which can be applied to a better binoculor than entry level, I bought a Brunton Eterna reg $600 for $250. The pervious owner did not hurt them at all by looking through them. Better quality same price as entry level.

Hi, I have a pair of Swarovski SLC 8x30wb binoculars for sale. They are in excellent condition, guaranteed for life and really are the best binoculars you can buy from my perspective. I need to $500 for them as they were just over $1000 new. I upgraded to the Swarovski 10x42 as I liked my 8's so much. Check them out online and let me know. Prior to my 8x30's I had a new pair of Leupold Pinnacle 10x42 and I sold them when I had an opportunity to upgrade to Swarovski's.…no comparison to the Leupolds. Leupold makes good glasses as well, don't get me wrong, but Swarovski's take things to the next level.

I have a pair of Vortex Fury. discontinued but I really like them. The weather I am hunting in usualy means I have to tip the water out of the eyepieces before looking through them... havent had them fog. had to send in for warrenty once. fast and free

I also have a pair of Pentax binos. 8xsomething. Great light little ones too. they live in the truck.

Excellent thread folks. I was at wholesale sports in Nanaimo this evening looking through $500 units....leupold, Bushnell, nikon, vortex etc. also peered through $3000 swarovskis. With 2 young kids and a stay at home wife, I definitely can't "see" the extra $2500 value. I came home with new Irish Setter Elk Trackers though! Keep the reviews coming guys

Second the vote for Vortex Vipers. Bushnells not too bad for the $ either but Nikons are a bit better than the Bushnells. I would spend the extra $100 on the Vortex.

Sightron 8x32 SII Blue Sky
Less that 200$ with shipping from US, and it is a great bino for this money.
Search reviews on optics forums, a lots of experienced guy said that this bino can stand near a 500$ bino easily.
