take the road less travelled, should be more fun!

I found the #1 took a little bit longer and was waaaay more boring. If you're prone to falling asleep at the wheel take the # 3 instead, more interesting.

Been a few years since I did the #3 but I seem to remember it being a more interesting drive. The #1 is pretty after Revelstoke but if you get stuck behind a semi convoy it gets pretty frustrating. I do really enjoy the drive from Golden to Cranbrook though. The Columbia river valley is gorgeous. Time wise you probably do have an edge going #3 but if your final destination is closer to Canal Flats then it would be a toss up.

Hwy 3, much more of a drive than a plain old commute!

Probably cheapest to use I90 or #2 for the scenic route

Depends when you are driving. I drive that route A LOT. I always take hwy 3, but when traveling at night or towing a heavy load. Highway 1 is better. Hwy 3 gas stations shut down around 10PM. Hwy 1 has more services.

Always went highway 3 out to Fernie from Langley, half the fun was the drive out to elk camp and home again. This year we will be making a detour though Kamloops and taking highway one/93, apparently this is a quicker route then the crowsnest.

Carefull of the time of year if its early trave when its cooler if your going through grand forks and east and throught trail carefull of the hills at mid afternoon
your rig depending what your load is going to get hot! Went that way and after we loaded up with elk came home through revy nice drive.

Just drove across to Castlegar today on 3.....find it much more scenic than #1.

There is a bit of construction slowing things in a couple of spots but all in all it was a great drive.

What's the travel time taking #3. Might be doing this trip in the fall.

Yeah, I used to live in Creston.. I've done that drive about 30 times. Much prefer #3 even though it's slower than other routes. They've upgraded the highway through Manning Park which is the worst of it from my recollection, and it seemed much better this summer when I drove it than 15 years ago.

They say #1 is faster, but you can not beat the Kootaney pass........... I find the drive from Golden down very boring....

Been taking the #3 the last few years and have made multiple trips out to Cranny this Spring/Summer. I enjoy it a lot more than the #1.

If you wanna make time go the #1 I've done both numerous times and would way rather drive the 1 in the dark

HWY 1 isn't quicker, only for commercial trucks, Hwy 3 is an hour -hour1/2 quicker and you get to see quite a few more critters

I just had a pile of meetings at hospitals and did number 3 across ultimately to Crannie....north to Golden and back across on #1 and down the Coq. I don't know where all the critters were?? Saw one mulie coming down into Castlegar.....mind you I saw about a dozen deer aside from that one but all were in Grand Forks; two little dink blackies and that was it. I love looking for them and was watching everywhere for anything I could see.

Now in saying that.....it was pretty cool as EARLY yesterday morning about 3-4 clicks east of the turnoff into Kinbasket Lake Resort I saw a nice black wolf on the side of the highway. I tried to take a "poke" at him but he dodged my bumper as I don't think I led him enough as he streaked across the road.:tongue: (before I get flamed.....the taking a "poke" with my truck is complete sarcasm)
