Sweet rifle, I have a 45-120 in a high wall not as pretty but it shoots great. Glad to see some other single shots out there.

That is a beaut.
There is a book by William Henry Wright, entitled "The Grizzly Bear". It was written in 1908.
The reason that I bring this up on this thread is that William Henry Wright wrote in his book that he once shot 5 grizzly bears at one time. He did this from one spot on a hillside and he did it with a singleshot 45-70. I can't remember the make of the rifle. He said that he had his shells between the fingers in his offhand and he could get shots of quite quickly. It was the last time that he ever killed a grizzly as he lost interest in killing them. He became a conservationist for the grizzly after that. Oddly enough, he had met Grizzly Adams and Ben earlier in his life when he was a youngster and Adams had influenced him into the intrique of grizzly bear hunting.
William Henry Wright also pioneered the game or trail camera. He set up box cameras with the crude flash and trip wires. Some of the pictures he took appeared in the book.
I see that the OP of this thread is from the Kootenays and William Henry Wright hunted his grizzlies just across the border in Idaho, northwest Washington, Montana and Wyoming.
The Grizzly Bear is a worthy read if you can lay your hands on a copy. I lent my copy out about 35 years ago and the SOB that borrowed it never returned it. I had forgot I lent it out and went to find it in the bookshelf I remembered loaning it and who had borrowed it. When I asked him about it, he played dumb and said he never borrowed it. POS

I shot it to night it shots ok but I still have to work up some loads for it right now I only have one powder in stock that will work with the 500 gr bullets and that is Varget and it sends out at 1550 fps and will shoot them through a 12 tree and at 45 yards it groups about1.5" but I am getting lead in the barrel so will probable switch to jacketed bullets or slow down the cast ones. I would like hunt this with it http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/medium/36124hunting_053.jpg

I load 500g Hornadys for mine. They shoot great. I shoot both solids and soft points

Beautiful rifle.

You could also try gas checked bullets to help with the leading if you want to keep on shooting cast.

I don't have a mold for gas check s yet but I am looking at one. I will probable shoot game with jacketed and cast for plunking or both it still up in the air I want reduce this load and get out o 100 meters of the bench.
