Well, finally getting our deer antlers mounted. I figured I'd start the DIY home taxidermy sessions with the small ones, and then work up to the wife's moose antlers. Pretty long and tedious process, but actually kind of fun! I was able to score some slabs of walnut and maple that a friend cut down. I sanded the heck out it, stained it a clear colour and the varathaned. The antlers I mounted to plywood then used Plaster of Paris over the skull plate. It is drapery cord and pleather covering the plaster. Only 2 more sets of deer antlers till I move onto the moose. I took way more photos but here is a Cole's notes version.

Looks great. Better than the majority home jobs I have seen.

I still prefer the euro mount, but I have a couple older racks that could use this treatment.

Definately an upgrade from what they were, and a better way to preserve the memory than the shop floor....

The rope around the bases is a real nice touch.

Thanks guys.

I am probably going to attach a smaller diameter rope around the entire mount where the mount meets the wood.

I'd leave the base alone where the pleather meets the wood Drew...you don't want it looking like Santa's hat. Just my two cents. Antlers don't need bling...they are bling
