Good morning fellow hunters,
I'd just like to report that on my way in to work this morning at 0345 hrs, I saw 2 bull elk in Maple Ridge at Lougheed and Kanaka Way. Yes Maple Ridge. I wasn't high or drinking either!! They were at least 4 points and maybe even 5. They had traffic stopped. It was amazing. I was driving westbound thru Lougheed when I looked to my left and saw 2 animals blocking the w/b lanes. I said to myself, S*** those are big deer. Are those horses. No they are elk. So I drove closer and snapped a few shots with my I phone. I know there are those that will call BS but I know what I saw. The pictures aren't great but you can clearly see them. What a great way to start the day. They were real healthy looking and big. A few years ago I saw 2 goats north of Westbridge and came back to camp and everyone said I was full of it. Well this time I made sure to take some photos.

Tonite I'm going to have to practice my bugling from my back yard.

Hopefully the photo works. I'm just at work.

That's a great sight but I hate the thought of them eventually getting killed on the highway. it will happen sooner or later.

Ya I worry this is going to happen. They had the w/b lanes blocked for at least 30 seconds. It'll be hot today so I guess they're going to bed down. I'm going to call the CO'S today and let them know!!

I believe they came from the north end of Pitt lake....where they were transplanted awhile back

They were also at the end of Stave, might be an easier route than from Pitt.

I would tend to agree....I personally know of routes on both sides of the Upper Stave that allow access into the Fraser Valley. Additionally, elk are good swimmers and it would be easy for them to swim the short distance past the rock bluffs at the head of the lake to gain access to easy traveling into Maple Ridge. It would be much easier than coming down from the Upper Pitt. Many years ago, well before the recent transplant programs, elk were frequently seen on the east side of Stave Lake around Salsbury lake and Statlu Cr.

They were put there in 1995. I have a picture in my gallery of the four point elk just below my place in Mission.

I saw those 2 elk yesterday morning at 5 am.
The one elk was wandering around on the road and the other elk was on the side of the road in the grass.
It was a great sight to see yesterday.

There's a big herd just across the border at Acme Washington (just past Lynden) which I've watched a few times. Maybe they will repopulate the valley again. Sure would be cool to go elk hunting up Pitt, Stave, Harrison or Chilliwack Lake area.

Wouldn't it be nice to have elk for lawn mowers like they do in Jasper.

I often wonder if they smell the girls at the Vancouver game farm. Nice looking animals. There was a six point bull that a f150 hit close to Maple ridge a couple of years ago. The bull didn't make it.

I know it's not an Elk, but I did see a Pheasant in New Westminster close to queens park back in May. It just came strolling into my bosses back yard. I never thought I'd see one in the city.
