Is it legal everywhere? Do you need a license?

You will need at least a fishing license.

Huh... I didn't even think about the legality. I would have assumed it would be fine with a fishing license in waters without specific restrictions but I'm going to go back and read the regs. I was just at a lake with fantastic visibility and a fish-spear and diving mask would have been a lot of fun.

I don't think you are allowed to spear fish in BC.
Now I'm not sure if you are not allowed to spear only salmon or any species of fish.

Yes your allowed. Only in certain locations, and even then you should be careful, you wouldn't want someone trolling for salmon, cod, or halibut to hook into you. Just do some research theres lots of good spots so i hear.
