Just looking for some advice on guys that have worn KUIU clothing and the pattern of preference. I really liked the original pattern they came out with that was unlike any others i had seen on the market , but now they have the Digi camo.
Also looking to see if it wears well through varying conditions. Anything you dont like about it..

Thanks.

All my Kuiu gear is the original Vias pattern, quite happy with it. I've been up in the rocks with it chasing goat and deer as well as lower down in and out of timber looking for elk and moose. The newer Verde pattern would out do the Vias in the timber I think, but I don't have any complaints with my gear.

Check out this video...

There are 10 videos comparing different patterns. Interesting watch.

I have the verde (digi) pattern and I love it. I actually really like both patterns, it's a coin toss. Maybe the vias if you hunt rock/shale a little more? I don't think you can go wrong with either. I've actually seen a picture of a hunter wearing a vias top and verde pants and at 100' or so you couldn't tell the difference.

I love my stuff so far I have the vias pattern I thought it may be an issue in the greener areas but it seems to work nice

As others have said, depends on where you hunt. When I actually care about camo I am frequently in the rocks chasing goats so the Vias camo is my choice. If a person was hunting more frequently in the foliage I would recommend the Verde.

Thanks for your opinions and contributions Ya'all.
The next thing is do i go with the Guide series that seems to be what you hunt in or keep my base layers i have and get the Chugach Rain gear or go for the Yukon series..hmmm decisions decisions....

I recently bought the yukon jacket in vias which will be my rain gear but I might also use when stalking as it is pretty quiet and would be fairly comfortable with one layer under it. For this years sheep hunt (and goats and alpine deer), I will be wearing either Sitka open country pants or firstlite ASAT pants, with either a sitka merino upper (open country), or dry fit in green/grey. Then add a layer on top of that for around camp at night and for colder days (currently use a stanny or another grey wool sweater but I am thinking of buying a patagonia nano-puff jacket in grey). For bottoms, I have cheap MEC goretex pants that I also use for bush work. They seem to hold up better than any other rain gear for the price (100+ days/year of bushwacking through devils club and thick alders). ** please save me from the obligatory MEC bashing BS - I don't care! **

IMHO Vias does not work well at all in a tree stand or grassy areas. It is AWESOME in the rocks and high alpine though. I have decided to go with the First Lite product in Realtree Max 1 this year... I think it will blend better in most of the coastal areas I generally hunt.

I went with the Verde camo, Yukon jacket and pants.... Here's hoping I'm home when it all shows up and before I leave on the 25th..... and especially before the wife figures it out.....

Good luck with getting it in time. I got my jacket within about a week after they shipped it....but my next order took almost a month after I got my tracking number! Was held up at the border I guess.

Hope yours arrives before you go.

At least this little fella would disagree... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJDVWDi3AuI&feature=youtu.be

Movement is going to give you away, not what you are wearing....but hey, why not have camo for your dedicated hunting clothes... it is cool.

I found Vias worked just fine still hunting in the timber last year. In straight cottonwood, the Sitka OC pattern blends real well. I like the Max1 over Mossy Oak which blobs... waiting to see Kryptek Highlander.

This guy would strongly disagree too... archery Island BT in Vias last fall.

Well wait no more....It was tough to decide on pattern and set so i am starting with the Guide series jacket and pants, a hat,Beanie, gloves Long sleeve merino shirt, belt and hip pouch for hopefully the video camera all in Verde.
If i am pleased with this then the raingear will be next.
The gaiters were not available right now darn it...

Springer - You are in luck, there is a set of gaiters in the buy/sell on here right now... If I didn't have a new set of OR crocs, I would buy them myself.

Really nice deer! I have laid the VIAS camo out in the bushes and used that to distract any movement from my tree stand! LOL Stuff sticks out like an unwanted erection at the school dance!

Hermit - Spoken like a retailer unable to sell it due to Kuiu's wholesale direct to customer business model :) Actually, I wish their was a Canadian dealer for it, as their lack of stock at times, combined with returns for sizing, etc quickly erodes any price savings. I was never much into school dances, but have to disagree with you on the VIAS... exhibit B from last season:

A hahaha you are right I would love to carry the stuff and indeed own the rain gear (top notch gear) in Vias, a few pair of the pants in tan and grey (which call hunting pyjamas because they are so comfortable), and a Icon frame and bag in Vias, and a hat. BTW - You have made me very green with envy with those kills! Beauty

Because of my VIAS camo, that bull didn't seem to notice the large erection I had.

How does Kuiu compare to Sitka

Superdeuce
07-25-2013, 10:09 PM
Kuiu fits a bit longer in the limbs if you are taller, but other than camo patterns, pretty similar and now both made in China so similar quality. You can try Sitka on in a store but Kuiu you have to get your size right as you buy direct. Watch for used as both pretty pricey if you buy new. You can get similar gear if you go solids in any of the mountaineering/skiing type gear but a lot of that stuff is equally pricey but I guess you get dual purpose out of it. I like the different pants the best. Picked up a pair of Sitka Timberlines to try out this year.

My Yukon Gear arrived today. I'm impressed so far, for rain gear it is very quiet, fit is very good for a guy with long arms..... Fits beautifully over the Super down with some room to spare. Now just need an outing that requires it......

Kuiu is running a sale right now. I already posted the information on this forum Monday, but somehow the post evaporate.

20% off, and 30% off if you buy a pant and a jacket.

The biggest issue with Kuiu is stock. They never seem to have anything in stock. How they can stay in business never having product to sell is quite impressive.

I received yesterday my Chugach jacket and pant. First impression, looks great but very noisy for hunting.
Anybody else has experience with them?

If its raining the sound of the fabric won't matter...

BTW - I just received the new First Lite rain gear equivalent to the Kuiu stuff and it looks great. Unfortunately I brought in a large and in this cut it is too big for me in the chest otherwise I'd be keeping this one for myself. Check it out at http://www.firstlite.com/ and order it at VantagePoint Outfitters (http://www.vantagepoint-outfitters.com/first-lite-merino-wool/).
