Good chance to bag the Sheep of your life. Make sure you put some time aside to hunt the area. That's a good draw.

There are rams there and beauties at that. Get out there every weekend you can preseason. Buddy at work hammered a smoker ram years ago with the same draw. Took him almost a month to find them. Many people, including myself covet this tag so make us proud and good luck!

Be prepared to put in time, and I mean lots of it. This is by no means a gimmi sheep. I know a few guys that have had the tag, and hunted hard and didn't even see a decent ram. Some times they are there, some times not.

If you can get thru, phone the local C.O. office in that area and tell them you need information on hunting this LEH winning sheep ticket. Could I be transferred or introduced to a regional Bio who knows the flocks in the leh valid sheep zone that you have won. Then write a short request with your letter or get on E-mail or what ever, ask if they could suggest a spot to fill that big tag. Or look it up on line, bing it or google it and see who has put a vid on in that certain spot. Good luck Jel

Not as easy as you might think. I know a guy who had it last year, put in a ton of time and effort, and didn't connect. Sure they are right on the highway in the winter, but the season has long been closed by then. Be prepared to hike your ass off. Make sure your in good shape, they will be a long ways up, and back from the highway in September. You may find them lower down on the last week of the season. Good luck.

You got now till then to figure out what a legal ram is. As everyone said, be prepared to commit a LOT of time (this is a once in 10 lifetimes draw) and effort (it's really rugged with lots of timber). The good news is that there has been some new logging and the access is a bit easier. It's not a huge area but difficult to get around. Try to find one before the season and keep tabs on it although it's not easy in the trees. They come and go back and forth across the border so they can appear/disappear at any time. Google Earth and ride around to find the quickest accesses to the different spots. Later is not neccesarily better - any time is good. Good luck.

I have received several PMs from interested and local members that have a lot of knowlege of the Herd and the Area .. Im sure if the right people come on board . i will have a good chance to harvest this Ram . Its not my first hunting trip . Just my First Ram . I live in Golden and some of you know , there are Rams near the Canyon .. I have take photos of them before and i do have one or two friends who have taken Rams down South . I do Know a few things to look for and of course i will doing some research . .BUT . the best way i can think of to make sure i take a Legal Ram is to have someone with me that knows what to look for ..

I'm guessing you never connected on a ram? Did you see any sheep?

Because he wont answer, I will. I know he didnt kill one because the first one in 3 years was just killed this past season. Very low success rate leh.

That hunt is no joke.... Lots of people think because it's a coveted sheep draw it's a slam dunk.... Not the case.

I dont have pics but its a low 170's ram. Nice ram but hardly what youd expect from a once in a lifetime draw.

No i didnt . i didnt even get to go out . i had hurt my back in the summer and i did have some people keeping me informed about the sheep . there was no legal rams taken . so it worked out good for me that i never went . oh well . thems the breaks .

It's especially hard when you don't even go. sucks about your back. Been there.

Don't be fooled... There are always legal rams in that area.... Just really tough to hunt. Lots are timbered up. I've heard it's like hunting whitetails at times.

Seen a picture from a buddy of a ram out of there in the past couple years. Hard work but a very nice ram. I wouldn't downgrade it one bit or call it less of a trophy. Great ram. Guys from the area and lots of hard work.

I know someone who had the draw last year, they hunted HARD, but didn't connect. Passed on one that was boarder line. Not a slam dunk for sure.

This photo hasn't reproduced very well, but this is a ram on the Salmo-Creston about 20 years ago. I believe - though I'm not certain - that this was the one that was poached near 20 years ago and created a huge controversy at the time. I took this picture just a few months before the poaching.

Later in the season and was a stud as well.
