It's looking like my regular hunting spot in the east koots is going to be pretty inaccessible due to all of the washouts so I am thinking of trying a new area for elk. I am wondering if anyone knows this area and if its worth a shot PMs are appreciated

I am curious what folks have to say about the area as well since we drew a moose draw for 4-36 this year.

Any other suggestions for moose in 4-36 you can PM it if you like. We are headed up there next week for a 3 day scouting mission.

Might see you up there Everett, we got the moose draw as well. Likely do some scouting on the long weekend. Doing some reading on winter surveys from 2006 I believe, it's about as good info as I could find on line, other than people talking about how population numbers dropped since 10-15 years ago. Not sure how far moose and elk move for winter range but its at least a start.

Looked at that report as well Moose in the mountains can move large distances to winter range. We will be hunting the Thanksgiving week when are you headed up?

Not completely decided yet. Was thinking first week of October, but maybe the week heading into Thanksgiving. We'll see.
Good info on the moose from the mountains and the deep valleys, makes sense that they drop down to an elevation with manageable snow depths, which could be a long ways.

ok, thought I'd follow up. Spent 10 days up to the Thanksgiving weekend. Saw grizzly, cougars, lots of whitetails, one dead wolf pup on road, no moose. Area looks to be exactly what a moose would want/need, tons of browse/cover/space/almost no hunting pressure. But very few moose anymore.

Moose is fairly good. Elk are there but very thick, rugged country. Elk is better back towards Donald. Keep eyes open for Mr Grizzly. Lots of those guys in here. Lots of black bears too. Good luck
