The Dawg

Finally got a chance to head to the West Coast of Vancouver Island to do some fishing.
Stayed at my buddy, IslandmanDan's place- our wives were childhood friends, so they got to do their thing while Dan and I did ours.
After trying to meet up with Ironnoggin, and things just not working out (thanks anyways Matt!), Dan was able to arrange some time on the saltchuck for us.
It had been 20 years since I had been on a boat fishing in the chuck, and as Matt said "thats FAR too long!'
Bill arrived at Dan's shop around 330, and said lets go. Dan and I were off like a shot- He obviously wanted to go badly too, as he left a trainee on their own to finish the day and close up.
I left her with a piece of advice- 'If things go wrong, burn the place down!'
We were on the water and heading out by 4 pm. We tried to head towards Long Beach, but were met with 6-7' swells which were slightly uncomfortable for trolling.
Thinking on the fly, Bill took us towards Barkely Sound.

We were able to tuck inside and be somewhat shielded from the wind, and Bill and Dan were able to get the downriggers going.
Down to 78 feet with mine and 'boom', fish on.
After getting it to the boat, and watching Bill release it, boat side, my expression must have been priceless- " It was pretty small, only 5-6 pounds"
Damn, that would have been a trophy bow up around here!
Back down to the deep with mine, and again, 'FISH ON!'
This time it was much better.

A nice Spring right into the cooler.
Dan was up next, bringing in one of two nice coho

I barely had time to turn around before we brought this one in.

We had a limit in less than 4 hours, dock to dock.
2 or 3 double headers, multiple fish lost- it was an incredible time!
Every night we had fresh tuna sashimi from Dan's shop, fresh seafood.
Damn I missed the ocean!
Thanks so much to Dan and Bill, as well as Matt for the attempt!
I encourage anyone whos' looking for some incredible fishing in Uke, to check out Bill from Justfishn charters. Amazing Action! http://www.justfishn.com/
A special thanks to Dan for putting up with us, and having me hang around the shop, as well as the aswesome job packaging the fish up for me.
Dan runs http://www.fishfullthinking.ca/ right across from the Canadian Princess- Even if I didnt know him, I'd be going back for the processing!
Thanks again all!!
