45/70 or an ultra mag anything else will just piss them off.

Depends on the level of noise. I prefer the .22 Remington Subsonics, but the CB Shorts (or Longs if they still make them) work fine too.

This is what happens when the employees from the fishing department get your password to HBC.

.22 pellets. Least meat damage, good knockdown power at short range.

22-250 for me. Unless there's lots, then the 1022. (ground squirrels).

Usually put 500 thru the 22-250 per year and 15000-20000 on gophers every year.

Wow you got off lucky.
My coworkers would have had you coming out of the closet and looking for a new hunting "companion".

As for the original question I would recommend 30.06 as a minimum for adequate penetration on squirrel sized game.

I used to own/run a ranch that catered to people that wanted an awarding experience hunting the black and grey squirrels. It wasn't far from ya, located in Willoughby.
We'd get some dandy's...

Yep. Using the Texas heart shot saves the trouble of gutting and skinning.............

Usually put 500 thru the 22-250 per year and 15000-20000 on gophers every year.so if you had a 50%kill ratio you would have killed around 10000 gophers a year. that's awesome...we need a pile pic.

I only feel safe in the bush with a 8mm magnum, you never know when you come upon a bunch infiltrated by NINJA squirrels! I once hit a ninja squirrel boot camp in the boreal forest in SK, the only thing that saved me was the 3" heavy shot BB loads, spraying like Arnold. But they are infiltrating westward! And they are following me...

Tied 7mag with 110grn HP's one season thinking they be great, but nope.....best so far is 243 with 58gr vmax, 22-250 is very close though. (measured by Mist Radius)

Wow thats a small cal. I would use a 50cal BMG. Why not take the tree down a long with the flying rat.

Long Range Pursuit did a squirrel show - using my favorite caliber - 7mm

But the celebration after the shot and over the carcass made me sick

This is all academic, guys. . .

I would call in a napalm airstrike to take care of the squirrels.
