2013 Spring Bears

It was a pretty successful season for myself and my girlfriend this year. I got a decent sized brown phase black bear in late May. It was feeding on the side of the road one evening and one shot with the 7mm-08 from about 90 yards was all that I needed.

With that out of the way we focused on getting my girlfriend her first ever bear. We found one for her June first wandering down the road. One shot with the 7mm-08 through the heart, a forty yard blood trail that even the colour blind guy (me) could follow, and she had her first bear. I mentioned it in another thread but thanks again to the folks that happened to be passing by and helped drag it back up the bank.

My bear was about 5 1/2 feet, hers a little bigger and quite a bit heavier. Ground them both up and are experimenting with sausage making now.

Glad to hear your playing with making your own products. Just remember to keep the meat your working on COLD and to keep things super-uber clean... If blood and juices are starting to dry/crust up on the block, you've waited too long.

Nice couple of bears. Same here, took mine to the deli and am waiting for cracked pepper summer sausage and Italian sausage!
