View Full Version : Out for a scout, and saw some grouse!

I was concentrating on the hen in the backround, when the one in the foreground moved. I didnt see her at all. The one in the backround had her tail all fanned out when I first spotted her, what is this response for? Was she motivated by the males or a territorial display for the other female?

Initially saw this guy on the road, but by the time I got out my camera he had dis-appeared although still quite vocal. Went on my way, got this pic a couple hours later on my way back. He and another male were calling back and forth.

Cool! HOpefully we get some decent grouse on the island this year since I bought Riley a beauty youth 870 20 guage pump. Saw a bunch last weekend but mostly willows (Ruffed) only one blue. 2 of the willows had brand new tiny chicks with them and did the classic wounded hen performance to distract us from their babies. Fun to see! Thanks for posting.

Out again today dropping a salt block and a camera, and saw this guy. I'm pretty sure its a Barred Owl. Pretty sure I also saw a Sooty Grouse but he bolted into the thick stuff too quick to get a pic!
