Nice to see you documented the important things....the whisky! I love the way fawns rely on instinct and just lay motionless. Nice close up photo's. Did the same thing last June...unfortunately pissed off mama a but and got charged.

I am not in a comfortable position right now keep thinking what I should do ,,should I go after an elk Sept first or try sitting up in my summit tree stand for the first 5 day trying to get that big WT that has returned for the past 3 years ??? got to do some real serious thinking on where I will be on opening day my thoughts are for me to try for that big WT buck with my bow ??? here is a picture of him from last July.

stay patient with the whitetail I would set up for him in late October or early November just before the rut kicks, they are a little more callable and will be on the prowl during the day more and more at that time good luck if you plan it right you will get both elk and whitetail

Thats a dandy WT Wayne. Funny part is I was chasing a bigger one than that for 3 years closer to your camp then you would think about 3 years back. Come sept I would never see him again on cams or with my eyes. They are smart, super smart. If you are able to close the deal on a big boy congrats to you. Those big boys sure have it figured out around there dont they? lol.

I had this WT come in every other day to my lick during the bow season last year I guess I was not there in my tree stand long enough he came in later one day after I left my tree stand the trail camera told me this later ,,then he came in a few times late afternoon a few times ,,guess If I want him bad enough I would have to stay in my tree stand every day during bow season meaning from break of daylight till late evening when dark approaches ,,,PS was this the buck you where chasing ???...

As nice a buck that is I was chasing another. Its crazy how they can just be so sneaky. EDIT

So my curiosity got to me and I went back through my cam pics to see what was up. Take a look at this velvet pic from a year before the one in the quote above. Do you think they could be the same buck? Check out the link its in my gallery. He is a 6x5 as this guy seems to be. You can PM me if you would like to keep it off here.

Last time I checked my trail cams was a month ago should have over ten thousand pictures when I get my cards loaded on my computer

Great pics wayne. I am not sure if the velvet is off or its to the point now where its drying out and it looks almost hard horned. Hard to say for sure, good buck none the less. I think my Uncle might be willing to pay for gps coordinates on that bull... LOL He drew a tag up there so us young bucks have to help him pack so he says.

Its very hard to go throug that many pictures I spent 3 hours deleting the ones that I did not want its time consuming for sure ,,60% of my trail cams had not worked for about two weeks or I would have had over 20,000 pictures I also noticed I have filed my memory cards I have 2GB cards and 2 of them where full after two weeks so I have to get 4GB cards in the more active trail cam areas..

More pictures from my trail cams..

This buck is the one I have been after for 3 years..

http://www.huntingbc.ca/photos/data/500/1610.JPG

This 6x6 bull elk is not the one I would want early hunting season I would let him walk but the last week of the GOS for elk I would take him you all know the saying if you shoot a small elk then you can't shot a big one you have to discipline yourself to hold out for Mr big.

If this bull come in for me in bow season when calling for elk I would not hesitate on taking him he would score around 270 points.

What do you have for setting on the bait cams??

I was 3 pict burst, then a 30 sec delay, then repeat. I have sinced set it to 2 picts every min as it is over salt/licks and my picture numbers have dropped and as far as i know, I have not missed any animals. Makes it much easier to look at them.

Nice set of pictures, looking forward to watching the year unfold for you.

Good luck

Back in from my bow hunting adventure ,,had a 4x4 bull out at 30 yards last night but let him walk not what I want if I shot him my elk season would be over ,,I want a RME 340+ bull I wont get one if I shot a dinker bull ,,got lots to do at home before I head back into the bush the day after opening season on the 11th of Sept ,,to all good luck out there and be safe ,,believe it or not this is the first year that I have not been in there for the opener of elk season as long as I can remember LOL..

It's nice to be able to be that selective isn't it?

1/2 Slam. when you have shot the number of bull elk over the last 45 years Its just another bull elk I see ,,,,,,I see a bull it is legal its not the one I am looking for so he can walk :)..

Like I said in an earlier post if I shot a dinker legal bull I wont fill my dreams of getting the bull elk I have been wanting for the past 45 years ,,I don't need the meat for this year still have plenty in my freezer ,,I just took in 100 pounds of scrap elk ,WT meat 3 weeks ago to get processed ,,I got 20 pounds of pepperonis ,,20 pounds of cheese smokkies ,,20 pounds of breakfast sausages and 40 pounds of lean hamburger and I still have plenty of game meat in the freezer from last year ..

I have to hold out for a big bull if I want my dreams to come true and like I said if the bull does not show I will have to wait till next year ,,if one of my hunting friends see a legal bull when I am with him and he wants to take this bull by all means he can shoot the bull I will be happy for him much more happier to see him shoot the elk them if I had shot the bull :-D.

I can't remember ever in the past that I was not in my hunting camp for the opener of elk season maybe its because I have no one in there with me to hunt with ???..

I think about what if I did shoot a big bull elk in the late evening and had to get it cleaned and and out by myself there are grizzly bears in my area and with just me in there covered with blood and the blood and guts in there where my elk lay..

It would take me most of the night to section this bull out and get it out to my truck ,,no thank you I will pass unless I had a partner head lamps on with our defender loaded to the hilt if a bear did come in to the kill sight and attack us..

I will be headed back into my elk camp today I will not go out for evening hunts by myself I will hunt the morning because I got daylight to work with and all day time light to get my dream bull out and back to my camp at the age of 66 you have to think before you squeeze the trigger am I no right and if not then any member out there tell me that I am wrong for not shooting a big bull elk the last hour of daylight .

When I get back into my elk camp latter this morning I will start checking my trail cams to see what is in each area I have them setup in then go from there I have not checked them for the last 12 days checking the trail cams will tell me whats been by in the last few days ,,O ya I just bought one more trail cam for my birthday I now have 10 trail cams now will put it to the test over the next 8 weeks.

As I have said in the past and I will say it once more having friends in your camp to hunt with is number one ,,number two to me is harvesting a game animal ,,without friends in camp and only me in my camp is no fun at all :icon_frow..

Wayne I'm in the same boat. I've shot so many animals over the years I don't need to shoot one just for the sake of shooting one. I turned everything down last year looking for that one big Mule Deer.I still had a blast!

I know what you mean by it sucking to hunt alone. The guy I partnered up with to head out with today has reduced his stay in camp to only two nights that's means ill be by myself for three more nights if I new he was going to bail I'd boot out your way and give you a hand hauling out a big bull. You've helped me and many others out tones asking for nothing in return.not sure what ill do with a big bull down myself either but I'm young and dumb so ill probably just deal with it when the time comes .
