I just purchased a Hogue stockfrom Cabellas and put it on my K98 mauser. It fit well out of the box with no modifications, even with the military barrel and the rear sight sleeve still on.
If you wish to retain the rear sight, you have to use very high mounts to use most of the newer scopes. Using an old K4 Weaver allows me to use lower mounts.
The stock has a soft rubber finish which attracts all manner of dust, pollen, dog hair--custom camo --lol
