2013 Spring B-Bear survey

Today was my last chance for a Yogi. I was only out 3 times but all several weeks apart and tried different areas (today I checked back at some of the earlier places too). There was virtually no bear crap anywhere and I only saw one bear!

If you were looking - How's your spring been?

Between me and my buddies, 3 went down so far.

6', 7'3", and one at 6'6 tonight.

I've been out a bunch; covered 100s of kms and seen not many at all. Saw three shooters but one way or the other couldn't get a good shot. haven't been able to find 'em again yet either. A few more days... I'll be trying still. Just wish I could find some really good sign.

Tracked one bear over two days, no sightings.
Saw one nice bear, buddy had a shot and missed.

What Bears ???

Can't pick one that fits. I've been out and have passed on some giants this year. Saw some great blackies while grizz hunting that we didn't spend our time with. Also saw a couple good ones down south. So yep it's been a great year for black bears...just didn't kill one!

Been an awesome year so far seen 36 and 3 grizz last weekend , one real good one but was unable to get clean shot . I m over 60 bears so far this year , I m very picky at what I want . Going out Thursday till the end , see what happens.

Was guiding the last 2 weeks of may, the first week there was no green in the blocks/bush, seen alot of bears on the roads/diches. the second week it started greening up in the timber/blocks, hardly seen any bears, the first week counted well over 30+ bears, second week only about 15-20 different bears. 11 different grizzlys in the two weeks!! Killed 4 bears, 1 at 6 1/2', 2 at 6' and a last day bear 5 1/2'. No shortage of bears around here!! Cheers!

hmmm been out a few times...seen over 50 bears..grizzly and black...with more than 1/2 the black bears being brown phase...one beautiful red color that was 7 foot that I couldn't close the deal on..and couldn't find him again then 10 or so over 6 1/2 feet...so far its been above average year..just nothing that I want to shoot...and the one I did he pulled a Houdini...still a couple more outings steven

shot one little blackie early on then passed on a bunch of larger ones while looking for my grizz. Access due to snow was the big limiter for the grizz, by the time i could get back there the timber had greened up.

Seen average amount of bears so far in my areas in the Okanagan, lots of sign, coulda shot a big one had a clear shot but I wanted my buddy to shoot it cause he's never shot any big game before, but I was wrong he had no shooting lane so we missed out oh well thats huntin...

Only saw 3 locally (by far my poorest yr) but 2 of those 3 were shooters. Just didn't have the shooter with me at the time. Trip to the W Koots was also our poorest yr ever. Lots of sows with twins and busier than hell with long weekend traffic.

Will get the girl out this weekend for the last chance for this spring.

Pretty average year I figure from my limited times out....... In 5 evenings locally I saw 12 different bears frmo whihc half were color phase. 1 maybe 2 were shooters. May long weekend in Wkoots, saw 8 BB and 4 GB.....

From the sounds of it and based on what I experienced its been a good May/June for Bbears, as for Gbears the Wkoots green up WAY to quickly and by mid may conditions were tough.

I havent seen a single bear sign in east creston this year. I got a color phased one out there last year, decent amount of scat, but this year there is nothing. Lots of wolf scat though..

Bears...It was a slow start in the North Okanangan... But all hell has broken loose in the last two weeks! The hills and roads are crawling with them, blacks and grizzlies, from Trinity, Cortiana, Mable Lake, Hidden Lake, to Sicamous! In the last two weeks I have seen no less than 3 bears on each day. Best day was last Thursday with 7 bears. 4 today. AbouT a 60/40 split in favor of the blacks. They are out there and they are getting faster! Few days left, get out there and cover some ground!

Have been out 4 times and have only seen 6 bears including 3 cubs. I plan to get out Sat for one last kick at the can.

Only thing not average for me this year was behavior. Much spookier than I'm used to. Settled for one small boar last month and keeping an open tag for a trip with a bud on Friday.

Shot my first bear Friday at 7:52pm wasn't home until 4 am.West side Harrison. Measured 5'5".
