5:00am came very early and I'll admit I didn't exactly want to jump out of bed but the thought of that cinnamon bear( see "Good Hunting Karma") gave me all the inspiration I needed. I decided to take my bow and my muzzleloader. Quick stop at Tim's for a little brew was in store then off to the races. Parked farther back from the spot than last night. Slowly stalked up to it with my bow in one hand and camera/tripod in the other. Nothing. Waited a bit but no luck so off to the next spot.

Decided on the muzzleloader this time as I new the area and getting a shot with the bow would be difficult with the thick under brush. Stalked through the area. Once at the end I set up the camera and starting calling with the distress call. Called for a while then waited. In the end nothing showed up so decided to work my way back to the truck. Round the corner and as soon as I saw the truck I saw a bear coming my way 50yrds behind the truck.

I imagine he was coming to the call as only a few minutes had past. However as soon as I saw him he saw me. We had a short stare down and he headed for the bush. I let out a few mouth squeaks. I watched the hill side expecting to see him go charging up but no luck. I slowly moved up the road. A dark shape caught my eye under a big tree. Binos up. Sure enough the cheeky buggar is sitting on his rump watching me. Set the tripod up and hit record as he started moving up hill again. Let out a few more mouth squeaks and searched for an opening for a shot. The tripod wouldn't level so I forgot about filming. Picked an opening I figured he'd have to pass through again. Rested the muzzleloader on a stump and waited. Caught movement and I let out a few more mouth squeaks. Cheeky buggar boar once again sits down on his rump and stares at me 65yrds uphill.

"BOOM!!"

I quickly watch up hill and listen closely for a groan. 5 seconds later I see him rolling down hill and come to a rest. Bears sure don't like 300gr sabots with 100grs of powder. All grins and adrenaline pumping. I look at the camera and notice its still on record. Even though I can see him laying still I like to wait. Waited about 20mins and headed up hill.

Cleared an area with a folding saw a few yards downhill from him where I could take pictures. Snapped some pictures and filmed a littler. Then the work began. Skinned him and deboned him with the gutless method. Home by 11. My 4yr old sure was happy to see it.

Awesome. Great story, especially the other thread on karma. There have been a few good Squamish bear stories this spring but the bruin in my back yard a couple nights ago indicates we still haven't diminished the local population too much.

I've seen a few while not hunting but none while hunting... ain't that just the way it goes?

Dude, that's a good one! That's some steep area... your two little ones reminded me of mine. Are you gonna turn that one into a rug? I turned the bear into a rug for my girl some years ago when she first came out with daddy to get a bear.
