Hey y'all, I finally get to post a success story. Ive been out hunting black bears around Kamloops for the last little while, done lots of predator calling and it has been wild. In one week I called in multiple bears all to pretty close range, but today was my best day so far. I didn't make it out hunting until almost noon but the sun was high and so were my hopes, first few stands of calling produced nothing until I moved farther up the fsr, I called one nice black bear into less than 50 yards but he got the scoop on me first, I saw another bear not too long after and it gave me the slip too. it wasn't until 5 o'clock when I was glassing a clear cut and this beautiful blonde walked out. i started calling right away and he closed the 150 yards on a string, I shot him when he was at less than 10 yards, he dropped on the first shot but I shot him 2 more times before he stopped moving. yes I used a mares leg 44 as you can see in the picture, i carry it in a leg holster and i usually shoot off sticks but I made my shots offhand on this bear as it was so close. first big game Ive taken with it and Im pretty darn happy. I used american eagle 240 grain JHP and recovered all 3 bullets mushroomed out perfectly stuck under the offside hide, I pulled two out of the left side and one out the right. one went though both shoulder blades and lodged under the skin. Not the biggest bear in BC but a nice male bear, measures 5'7''from nose to tail and i would guess weigh around 200 pounds, it was most certainly bigger than me. I am so happy to take a beautiful colour phase bear, super blonde on top and chocolatey brown legs. its also my first bear so I be purty darn happy.

Very nice!!
Calling is great fun! I never tried it untill this year. Been using a rabbit call. Trying it almost every day at work. Man it really keeps them interested Even when calling from a running truck!!

Congrats buddy!

Give us some detail on your call and the style of calling you were doing.
ive had success calling but this weekend all three bears had zero interest on my call.
ive been using a Sceery variable predator call.

For the most part all of my calling was blind calling in good areas with fresh sign. the only bear I saw first was the bear I shot. I use an open reed call,it came in a two pack theres one slightly higher pitched than the other. on the high end they make a rabbit in distress and on the low end fawn in distress. I always started quiet with a rabbit in distress then worked my way up, i just wail away on that pretty much non stop or only short 10 second breaks and all the bears came in in less than 15 minutes. a few days ago me and a buddy had a bear sneak in to 15 yards and we had two sets of eyes lookin for bears so watch your back and your front haha.
