We were in 7-32 looking for bears and were very disappointed at what we saw in the area. Lots of bears - saw 15 in 2 days including one griz. The problem was with the moose. We saw 5 moose (one was a new born calf) and all 4 adult moose had no hair on the front half of their bodies. My judgement call is that they rubbed it all off trying to get the ticks off. They were very skinny and didn't look too healthy, including the one with the newborn calf. One of the bears we shot also had ticks on it. With 4 out of 4 moose missing their hair that is not a good sign. The only hopeful sign is that the weather was fairly mild this spring so it may not have resulted in a kill off. Add to this another disturbing sign - more wolf tracks than I've seen in the area over the last 25 years. For every moose/elk track on the roads, there was a wolf track beside it. Lots of wolf scat in the bush too. Of course 7-32 is a big area and we were only in one 20 sq mile section of it.

It's hit and miss this year. I have seen lots of moose and some were hit by ticks, some were not. I found a calf that had died probably an hour before I found it, it was covered in ticks and was rubbed raw.

Seems most of the ticked moose are the ones around the ag lands, seen lots up towards the Buckinghorse and Sikanni that were looking good. Good thing is the ticks are over for this year and if the moose survived, they should be good (unless the damn wolves find them).

I've heard that the ticks are bad this year. Ive only ever once found a tick crawling on me in all my years of hunting, fishing, camping and hiking in BC. And that was 15 years ago. This year though I had to remove one latched onto my thigh while turkey hunting, and I found another one crawling in my hair while bear hunting. :(

Most of the moose I've seen this year have looked great. But they are mostly away from the AG lands as Sitka said.

Different ticks from the one's moose get...the ticks we get are smaller wood ticks. Be thank full you do not get moose ticks!!!
