Finally got myself a good bear... gonna make a great rug :)

Spent the weekend with a good buddy in Logan lake poking around for bear, no luck but had a fantastic time and very relaxing, needed that break! Came home Sunday night and as I had Monday off I headed out for a day trip with another good buddy... he took me to one of his honey holes, got stopped when we hit snow so we couldn't get to where he had planned, but were able to glass 2 good bears there a good 1100 yds away and way up the mountain.

A short while later came across this bruiser at 40-50 yds away. He stood broadside and waited for me to hammer him. After the high fives ended we did a fantastic job skinning him for a rug. We were loaded up and headed home by 2:30, stopped at the butcher on the way home and then off to the taxidermist. Measured out just over 6.5' with a massive head a big paws.

Nice bear and I have no idea why the forum is having trouble with the url. Apparently there's a 5 picture limit too.

Okay so Ive never scored a skull before. I got the skull back from the taxidermist, its in the freezer. What measurements to I take? I take width and length and add them together or something??? Anyway if anyone can let me know or better yet link to a video or something I will try it out. Can I do it while its frozen?

You can get a "rough score" from the frozen skull. Have to wait until it's thawed and dried for a closer to official score.

Very easy. Two measurements. Here's the story: http://www.boone-crockett.org/bgrecords/bc_scoring_bear.asp?area=bgrecords&type=Bear
Length plus width = Score.

Let us know what he goes. And Congrats btw

Cheers,

Okay I rough scored the skull and it measured in at 21-1/8. Though that's frozen from the taxidermist, once it's boiled, cleaned and dry I will re measure it.

Got my rug back a little while ago... was pretty happy with it. The head is not quite as big as it was in real life... I guess thats due to skull form sizes... but I think it looks great, just need a place where it fits haha... right now it's living at my parents place on the bed in the spare bedroom.
