I am looking for a new set up for my day trips.

I now have a simple smaller back pack with small bone saw course pillow cases couple plastic bags couple flash lights knives first aid kit sweater light rain gear rope and snacks wallet
in my pocket is my keys and gps garmin rrhino
my gun has a snug stap to keep it pointed straight up
I have a leupold harness for my binos
my problem is the weight on my pack on my shoulders makes my lower back sore
also having the shoulder strap of the pack and my gun strap overlapping I find I am constantly adjusting can anyone give me some suggestions a pack and gun strap combo that's comfortable

Hit the gym and strengthen your back, I've got spina bifida in my lower back and have noticed quite the difference after some time at the gym. Maybe a better quality pack too.

This is my Timber Ridge backpack from Westfield. Nothing fancy, but better than my Ninja Turtles school bag. I'm not even sure where you can pick these up.

Has a built in holster, that I tend to use rarely. But when needed it comes in handy.

Usually I just keep a couple rounds of ammo, wallet/hunting license, knife, little bit of paracord, knife sharpener and sometimes a bottle of water.

Other things that sometimes go into it are ribbon, e-tape, hockey tape, lighter, camera.

ill look into the gun bearer as the sling seems to be my biggest problem interfering with the strap from my pack

It's time for a better back pack, one that's suited to your needs and body fit. Some packs have built in scabbards, like others have mentioned.......it all depends upon what you want in a pack. Different packs serve different purposes, and you'll prolly end up with more that one pack in your collection as you see fit.

Personally, I HATE a gun swinging off my shoulder, getting snagged on brush, etc........always have, always will. Hands free climbing is a priority for me, so my packs have either a built in scabbard or a home made one that I have attached myself. I also like a short, light carbine for the same reasons.

Maybe it's time to rethink exactly what you want, and then start putting together the pieces, either bought or home made to make it happen.

Badlands 2200! It will carry your gun and everything else. Water bladder pouch. It will hold a de-boned mature BT or half a big mulie no problem. There has been one for sale on this site for a while.

You'll want the universal, unless you're ordering a Kifaru pack.....

Go to Valhalla Pure Outfitters and get an Osprey Pack with a good hip belt. The larger packs come with a hip belt that will be moulded to your waist in store.Kifaru has to be ordered in from the states.

I'm 24 and don't have a bad back but had the same problem with my day Pack... was too heavy, and was also a backpack(camelback). I picked up a Alps Outdoorz Little Bear FannyPack that has the shoulder harness on it. In my pack I carry: Bone Saw, Main Knife, 4 Elk Game Bags, Sportsman First Aid Pack, Sweedish Fire Steel, Lighter, Whistle/Compass, Cell Phone, Wallet, Flash Light, Survival Blanket, Allen Keys, Scope Glass Cloth, Water Bottle in the water bottle compartment, and my snacks for the day, Clipped onto the harness is a two way radio and i have the turkey bags/bino harness that can be clipped on and off.

There are alot of fanny packs out there but the main thing is getting that weight off your back and onto your hips/waist.

You dont have to drop $200+ on a pack this one is $40 off amazon.ca
