This is a very good question.
I come from Europe and we have tons of them there.
I have never seen one in Canada/BC.

German Jagdterrier

I don't know if they are even a recognized breed in Canada and US.

The closest thing would be fox terriers.
But fox terriers are not as smart.
They are as driven.

If there is a hunting dog to have, it's these little guys.

Thanks for your reply however I like to ad this. A German Hunting Terrier can be Hell on wheels and most of them are completely fearless. Its nothing for a GHT to put the run on even the largest Grizzly or even 3 full grown Timberwolves as I watched my last one do from a Mountain top. The are extremely strong willed and versatile and are allways on the go. Besides Jagdterriers we allways had Dobis (Doberman) but if a male GHT and a male Dobi are together in the same yard it wont be long till the sparks are flying.

Thanks

Yeah they sure are the tough as nails. Pit bulls remind me of them. Definitely not pet quality dogs.
They are not recognized by the CKC and AKC and there are no breeders and I haven't seen one in BC.
Keep us posted, I'd be curious to know if you were able to get your hands on one.

There is also this Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Jagdterrier-breed-Club-of-America/199100326793640
American Jagdterrier club

and this web site. sounds like these guys are trying to get AKC recognition for the breed.

Good luck!

There is a fellow in Cranbrook with a young jagdterrier. He also brought it over from Germany.
Good luck!

Check out the Traditional Working Airedale forums. There are a couple of fellows on there who hunt with Jagd Terriers. You have to become a member to read the threads. It is a site that you should look at if you are serious about hunting with terriers as there are lots of like minded folks there.

My friend also used to have two of them. I think he still has contacts in Germany.

I was looking for a Jagd last year, and actually found one at a shelter on the island but could not get any response from them at all. Like most shelters I guess I didnt meet their standards... I did say I was planning on training him for hunting which probably sent up all their flags. Other than that one, I didnt find any in Canada. Found one breeder in the States. Ended up getting a little family dog instead :(

I managed to find a breeder and got myself a pup a couple years ago. He’s a great little dog and every bit the animal people describe. Although we are short on huntable small game around Kamloops, he doesn’t hesitate to try! So far no neighbourhood cats have been disposed of and he tries hard for squirrels and gophers. Really great dogs, smart, stubborn, energetic and fearless. He’s not as gamey as I thought. His parents were basically farm dogs that hunted around the farm on their own.

Was wondering about other breeders around.
