Cabela's selects Post Falls for superstore: November's announcement that Post Falls won the Cabela's sweepstakes over Liberty Lake is expected to provide an economic spark to the city's west side.
The outdoor retail giant plans to build a 152,000-square-foot store that will employ about 275 and feature a mountain replica, aquarium, wild-game displays, deli-style restaurant, gun library, archery range and atrium. It is expected to be completed in about a year. Site grading has started on the north side of Interstate 90 near the state line and Sysco Corp.
Cabela's will anchor The Pointe at Post Falls, the 235-acre retail development. The store typically attracts restaurants, hotels and big-box retailers. The entire project could attract about 3,200 jobs, according to a a report by King and Associates, a private Denver consultant.
Post Falls stands to acquire an I-90 interchange at Beck Road, especially if STAR (Sales Tax Anticipation Revenue) funding legislation passes in the upcoming session. With state highway improvement funding woes, the interchange could otherwise be decades away.
STAR funding would allow companies such as Cabela's to recoup a small portion of the sales tax it collects to help pay for public highway improvements around the businesses. Cabela's, which would like the $15 million to $20 million interchange to improve access, would be reimbursed for roughly 75 percent of the cost through returned sales tax money.
