With the kids being adults now, its nice to rely on them to do some of the cooking while I fish or go hunt, I think I've taught my girls well. And thanks a few words here and there posted.

Thank you..... Yes, everyone doing great.... Son has moved permanently to Alberta and still playing junior hockey there, coming up to 2 year mark for cancer free check ups.... He'll be home in June for big fishing derby at the cabin. Girls both doing fantastic, all grown and set into careers. I'm glad that they still love the family trips together.

I'll start with sunday morning............. .

I made breakfast for the kids and then packed up a lunch and snacks for Peter and I to head out for the day. At first I was thinking maybe this was just gonna be one of those let's take the wife out to keep her happy but not do much days. We headed up this new FSR that we had been checking out for the past little while and we knew it was a good road for and area for Yogis. Driving in we started seeing signs of bear.....poop.....lo ts of poop...big pile poop....only big bear can make a poop that big ......driving more and see more poop....I have come to the conclusion this road is the bear's toilet. NO BEAR JUST ..............POOP grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Back out onto main FSR and try another cut block area but nothing, feeling like my chances are growing slimmer and slimmer as the day goes on. Peter decides he wants to take a run up our secret "ugly horse" road, as some fresh work has been done along that region and hoping the bear have started moving along. He gives me my pep talk to "remember to look closely into the tree lines and around the edge of new cut blocks" ..........sigh I think to myself, kind of hard to see anything when the trees are whipping by zoom zoom zoom, hello drive slower will ya......so are ya guessing what came next................ ..if ya thought BEAR dang you'd be right...........he spooked one out of the trees, ran out in front of the truck and like the wind kept going..........and GONE................ ..so Sunday I found Bear Poop Road (no bears) and Runnin Bear Road (no poop). Never even got to see if I could load the rifle without fumbling.

where am I at now Yogi (2).......Ali (0)

but dont worry ...............story isnt over I was still up there for a couple more days................ ....................

I figured my bear hunting was over for the weekend as we headed back to the cabin and spent all of Monday visiting friends up in 100 mile as well as my Momma in 108 Mile. The kids went home on Monday. We had all of Tuesday and I kept hinting, let's go bear hunting, oh would be a perfect time to go bear hunting, but no such luck............we did a little fishing, which really sucked because the lake was just into turn over and fish are dormant during that time (so the experts have said) then we had thunder storm....GRRRRRRRRRR RR I am very discouraged........I think my entire dream of a Spring bear is slowly dwindling.

Wednesday is home day. I get up and make morning coffee like I make everyday. That's Peter's wake up call. Bacon is frying in the pan and eggs are scramblin. I am thinking oh it's early, we can do an early bear hunt then head home. Nope.....have to load the cabin with fire wood for the up coming fishing derby, make sure the beach fire pit has wood ready, basically ready the cabin for June's derby. Load up the truck and trailer and get ready to head home................ .................... .

Now here is where things get really interesting. We are heading up our FSR road which our cabin is on and just listening to the CBC and talking about nothing, it's 10 km along our FSR to the main FSR.........drive another 10.5 km on main FSR to pavement and back to reality............b ut about 6km into the main FSR drive, I look on my right and see a black fluff in the meadow and say, "BEAR"....Peter stops the truck, looks at me and says, "get out of the truck, walk slowly towards where you spotted the bear,"...he is getting my rifle because it was packed away, so here I am walking towards this black bear unarmed (do not laugh when I describe my hunting attire) wearing 2 inch heeled sandals, yoga pants, a pink ruffled top with fancy beads, make up (no not camoflauge make up) lady make up and Peter hands me my rifle. Just as I grab my rifle the bear walks out of the meadow onto the road, perfectly broad side. I lift my rifle up, look into my scope, get myself steady, I slide my safety off, finger slides into trigger, bear in crosshairs 50 yards in front of me.................. .................... ....AND............. .......I hear "Don't shoot".... I slide finger out of trigger, slide safety on, pull up rifle and stare at the bear......he turns his head, looking at me as if to say, "You had me, I was down, but you didn't, thank you....." and he walked into the trees gone................ ............ I looked at Peter and said WTF.........he said, "that wasn't your bear, he was too small, beautiful yes, but under 5' (too small)"............. .......He told me, "It gives a hunter more satisfaction to know you could have taken the shot but chose not too because it wasn't the right time".

So I didn't harvest my bear yet, but I hunted one and had him, but I let him go. Hope I didn't disappoint y'all. I am still looking for the ONE.

He was really pretty though...eyes were black fur, face was brown, body was brown but blended black down to his paws and his tail, he was just too small.

Thanks y'all, I am learning so much about myself through this process............. I used to think I was just a wannabe and a pain in Peter's side, mostly living vicariously through his hunting trips (which I do, I love being a part of his trips even if I am just the one who preps his food, gets his clothes organized and such). But this spring bear season has been totally mine, Peter isn't carrying bear tag, he is my driver, my guide, my host, my teacher, my mentor.......I have teased him terribly about not wanting me to succeed for fear I may harvest a bigger bear than his and take bragging rights (which at this rate, I am) but I know he is really making me see myself differently and proving to me I can do more than I actually give myself credit for.

I thought seeing I didn't get any pics of the bears and all their poop, I'd share a few photos of the weekend...........

Remington........... .....I heard the Owl....where's my camoflauge

Great pics and story, glad you had a good time up at the lake. I passed up a smaller blackie on the weekend too, but was fun sitting watching him at 60 yards with him clueless to our presence.
