Hey Guys,

Headed out in a couple days for my mountain grizz hunt, and I am curious about hunting grizz in the rain and everyone's experience with that. I've hunted a lot of spot/stalk black bears in the past and seems like rain and wind will shut things down almost completely and a guy doesnt see bears when its raining.

Was just wondering if grizz were the same as blackies in that regard, or if guys have good luck hunting them in the rain as well.

Comments welcome!

Good luck with your grizz hunt, hope the hunting gods are smiling down on ya and I will be curious to see the responses from other members about how they react to the rain. I have found the same thing as you have with hunting Black Bears, nowhere near as much activity when its raining, I would imagine that Grizzlies would act the same???

I'm no expert, but I'm sure you will see G bears out and about in the rain

Thats my initial thoughts as well, curious on other responses. I know rain can sure bring a good black bear hunt to a standstill. I'm sure its got to affect grizz in a similar way, but wasnt sure if it affected them as much or what everyones experiences were.

Never found rain effected hunting black or grizz

If the weather has been hot, rain can get the bears up and feeding.

Suppose it depends on the grocerys available and how hungry they are. They have to eat , rain or shine.

Depends on the intensity of the rain and/or wind....

If its an absolute monsoon, they may take cover. if its a light drizzle.. stomach takes precedence over staying dry

The cooler weather is a bonus the bears black and griz will be out and moving about just right conditions to find a grizzly bear good luck with your hunt..

I find rain does slow the black bear sightings, but not the grizzlies. A cold miserable drizzle seems to fit their disposition nicely. Other than visibility, I'd say your chances are still good.

Slows it down sometimes, but kicks it up others. Have to be out rain or shine, never know when it can happen!

Yep you bet! We'll be out every day for as much as we can, giving it everything!

I have seen many grizz out in the rain - and other terrible weather. Seems to me they are kinda like moose in this regard. Although Im mostly in areas that have good populations of both. I would hunt the chit out of the rain!!!!

In general less animals are seen and shot in the rain. Mostly due to the fact less hunters are out in that weather.

In general I agree with you Krico unless you are trying to hunt blacktails, they seem to like the worst weather you can find. The more rain and wind the better and I have heard that the same applies for cougars, but that is not information from personal experience.

even if they don't happen to be out hunting in the rain is still better than sitting on your arse
