Why do you think this thread will be locked Jelvis? Do you know something everyone else doesn't? Are you making some assumptions?

I believe this was part of their "Kill Animal and Leave to Rot" ceremony. Its become quite popular in recent times.

That pisses me off. Doesn't matter who did it, they should be made to clean up the rotting carcasses by hand and then be locked in a cell with the corpses.

There's a little sensationalism going on here......

In the posted article it states that the are 12 'instances' of wastage.
And because it doesn't say whole animals I'll conclude it's some meat here/some meat there.

Anywho, point is that 50 animals WEREN'T left to rot.

I don't see why a thread needs locking because some people take general statements personally.

Ya but that's what people on HBC do, react without thinking, right?

I'll admit, it sometimes does make a guy wonder.

in the picture i count 18 hind quarters and more behind him, as well as the back straps. So its not just a few bits of meat,it's alot of waste.

I just saw a DNR (game warden show) last week from Yukon or Alaska and it featured the same topic.

It was a pretty good show. They treated all cases like CSI cases for humans. Full forensic studies. They even gutted a bloated cow moose to find the bullet. Wish I could remeber the name of it.....

C&P from the OP's source;

The department [NWT Department of Environment and Natural Resources] is asking the public for help in identifying the people responsible for what totals to 12 instances of meat wastage.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not condoning any of this but if media can't get their crap together on ANYTHING, why should one believe ANYTHING that they so-call report on(?). Also, take note that the image used isn't captioned/claimed as being part of this particular story - We're left assuming that it does simply because we see it.

But, it's in the news so it must be true...

No different than shooting a black bear, taking it home and then throwing it out!

12 instances could be 12 incidents involving 4 or 5 animals each. The article clearly states that there were more than 50 animals involved.

Saw that too.....I am pretty sure it was on Alaska State Troopers or maybe Wild Justice?

i was impressed with the forensic work they did......even if it may have all just been for TV.

Why any respectful hunter would try to downplay this is beyond me. Serious offense and hope they catch the poachers.

You clearly missed my post where I stated that I don't condone this.
I'm simply not liking how is been 'sold'.

Seems like a lot of trouble to field dress and quarter those animals just to leave them there.

But if 50 'bou's were found and all of them were found to have usable meat left behind, would that not be 50 incidents?
That's how I would write up the offences...

I would have much preferred to see a Public Statement from the 'ENR' published by the CBC, instead of this summation of a reporters opinion.

12 incidents involving 50 caribou over a 4 day span is how I read it.

I read it the same a Gatehouse. I dont believe the theory of them trying to "Sell" us anything.

Maybe they were just "curing" the quarters, au natural, and planned on coming back to get the rest of the meat ;-)

And I read that 50 carcasses were found with 12 incidents of meat being wasted.
In my mind, that would mean 12 animals.

Probably doesn't much matter, 1 steak is 1 steak too many.
