The smaller ones. Less surface area on the ground, the less drag there will be.

Less friction with the road, less unsprung weight, lower trailer which has less windage.

Think of a ten speed over a cross country bicycle.

Why use 15" ? ground clearance ?
12" are rated about 1200 lbs per

smaller wheel wear out little faster than bigger one..takes more turns... and not so good at potholes..

Bearing need to be greased quite often with the smaller ones as well as they get hot with the higher rpm.

I wouldn't worry so much as to the size, instead worry about rating for PSI,how many plies, bearings, and overall loads you'll be hauling.Too light of a tire in offroad conditions and your asking for trouble.

Same size, let's say 15" but narrower tire less rolling resistance.

It would be nice to have the same wheels(bolt pattern) and tires as the truck so you could get away with sharing a spare tire. In a perfect world.

this.
i'd be worrying less about mileage and more about your loads and the bearings.

Make sure your truck is tunned up so mileage goes a long ways the smaller tires the faster they have to turn the bigger the tire they turn slower my pick is larger tires..

Tire pressure is as important as anything. Try riding your bike with 10 psi in the tires then put in 60 psi the difference is amazing= rolling resistance!
Size equals weight, more weight more power ( fuel ) to move unit.
One break down, always at an inconvienent time and all that fuel savings goes out the window.
