My 13 year old son, friend and I went to Creston on the weekend to go turkey hunting for the first time. It was very interesting, as this was the first time east of Grand Forks. We did a little homework to find locations and done a lot of reading and youtube to learn how to hunt them. I have to say it was a blast!

We arrived late Friday night and slept in the parking lot at Tim's. Started out late Saturday morning, ended up seeing 4 on private property. After a couple hours walking in the bush, never found any, we changed up the area. In the new area, my son yells at us "stop...stop...turkey" Out he jumps in a flash chasing a hen and a jake. After 20 mins...they gone! Boy, are they fast. Seen 2 more hens run across the road. Missed our chance that day so back to camp we went. Chilli cheese dogs and early to bed. Sunday we hiked and hiked, saw lots of sign but no turkeys (Grouse everywhere). As we were heading back to the truck we could hear a tom call but he was on his way out.

We went for a drive up the road and a hen goes running across the road. I hop out to have a look for a tom. Nothing...I give my call box a cluck....all of the sudden the tom goes CRAZY....Gobble...Gobble...Gobble. Long story short and a bit of chasing...BOOM...we got him. One of the funnest hunts I have ever had!

I would hate to think what this turkey cost me!!! I am going again...I am hooked. Thanks BREZ for the tips!!! Your advice helped.
