Went to TRY and find some big fresh AGAIN.....zero....but found another hammer from years gone by. Bugger had a 12.5" g-2 , 67" of bone! http://i443.photobucket.com/albums/qq155/proguide66/photo79_zps60f43316.jpg (http://s443.photobucket.com/user/proguide66/media/photo79_zps60f43316.jpg.html) http://i443.photobucket.com/albums/qq155/proguide66/securedownload2_zpsd1e81df6.jpg (http://s443.photobucket.com/user/proguide66/media/securedownload2_zpsd1e81df6.jpg.html) http://i443.photobucket.com/albums/qq155/proguide66/securedownload-1_zpsad4532d2.jpg (http://s443.photobucket.com/user/proguide66/media/securedownload-1_zpsad4532d2.jpg.html) http://i443.photobucket.com/albums/qq155/proguide66/photo80_zps61edd8c8.jpg (http://s443.photobucket.com/user/proguide66/media/photo80_zps61edd8c8.jpg.html) http://i443.photobucket.com/albums/qq155/proguide66/photo76_zps9ce41435.jpg (http://s443.photobucket.com/user/proguide66/media/photo76_zps9ce41435.jpg.html)

Funny , I've been trying with BIG effort to locate at least ONE fresh shed from 2 different bucks....its ALL I WANT ! , lol , will they let me find their 'secret secure hole' ???...nope...driving me nuts. Funny how hard you look and what you find. I have now antlers from 5 or more bucks who 'went' over 140" ( 2 over 150" , 1 over 160) from one of my 'special spots' , only 1 fresh though( he's maybe 130). I cant believe how hard it is to find the fresh from the bucks I have pics of...its crazy...There's at least 8 to 10 antlers laying on the ground up there that I am after...found every damned antler there is EXCEPT at least 'one' of those 5 bucks.....damned things ! lol

Thats funny. I am looking for 1 of 6 (off three elk) so the same thing. Picked up 27 sheds this year and not one from the elk I am looking for. Seen them together freshly shed and with new growth 4 times now (all basically the same spot) but can NOT locate their drop zone. Heading up into a place I have a hunch with big hopes for BT sheds, hopefully I can add something good to the BT hunts on here too. Good luck, you're that much closer to scoring with every foot step !

Its INSANE!......actually , I'm at the point of wondering just 'what is' more insane - the fact the *******s can hide like that? or the fact we actually obsess about some damned 'animal parts' that are basically and absolutely 'useless' in life , L M F A O !!!...oh well , I'm goin with it. Could be worse , we could be able to sit and recite the entire careers of some hockey or baseball players...now THATS a shitload of time spent in front of the tube!!!...with ZERO to show for ! lol I can easily say I'm in 'sheep shape' already , most from work but the icing is from mountain shed lookin. 'If' I find the 'fresh' from 'Mr. Big' or his nontyp buddy my spot will be given away as people within 5 miles will probably hear me screaming , lolol.....I swear the REAL big sheds have a sense of smell!

Wouldn't that be hilarious if you found all 3 elk sets in a single 10X10 ft spot!!! lol

Oh man agreed, obsessing over some dudes in uniforms and watching them 'play'... no personal gain there or physical benefit (exercise) or accomplishments possible 'following' them along but to each their own I guess.

Thats what I am hoping, there is a honey hole, er, tiny 'bucket' that they dropped in year after year. Could be the same for those two cranker BTs!? Time might tell !

The question is... Is it harder to shoot the mature animal or harder to find his sheds??

Shed hunting is almost as fun as hunting too me. Very challenging in the mountains specially when targeting a specific animal.

One detail I seem to have noticed this year is EVERY super lrg antler I have found was on the top of and just back from a 'cliff' or bluff face. The little shelves also saw the most daylight in a winter day. ALL the big drk timber surrounding the 'little points' held tonnes of scat , beds ect , but the large antlers 100% came from the top a rock shelf or 'knoll' wich was also surrounded by at least a 1 hr hike of big timber from all directions. If the antlers weren't right on the rock in the sun , they were maybe 5 yrds back from the edge. SO , I really slow down once noticing a sunny hole in the timber....and bingo ! Elevation has nothing to do with them as well.I am finding these things down low( kinda) and so high up it makes you just shake your head! We'r talking more than likely a 4 to 7 ft plus snow base. Deep snow does NOT effect mountain blacktails - period...lack of big timber does. I'm guessing a real bad snow year might even work against them in my spots as they 100% feed off what gets knocked off from snow.

Thats a good point Steve. Thinking back 90% of the sheds I find area in the rock bluffs or in big timber that allows sun in. The rest are in thick stuff mainly. Also two of my biggest sheds were also at the lowest elevation. But still with in spiiting distance of a set of fork sheds. Just above a nice rock slide area.

Easiest shed I ever noticed, big rock bluff and nice and sunny. Third picture, the one on the left was roughly 10yrds behind the rock bluff... not a set. Both at low elevation. Good reminder to keep your eyes peeled till your back at the truck.

ive also find that the edge of bluffs/cliffs is good for sheds. also that snow wont keep them at low elevations, they just hold up in some security timber. friggin barley made it bad to truck last day of season, pushed myself abouts 8km, 3 feet of fresh...no snow shoes, too bloody steep for em anyways.
