Well, it all came together yesterday after a long winter of practicing and dreaming of taking a big bear with my bow this spring. I have taken blackies before, but never with the bow and I told myself that if I found the right bear, it would be my last. Coming from the east coast and never having seen a bear before moving to BC, I don't have a desire to take more than I deserve. After a lot of hiking, driving, canoeing and several blown stalks, it came together I didn't see him until he was running dead away and thought for sure he was gone while I listened to him crash through the thick brush. Pissed off at myself for missing another one, I decided to walk in after him to see if I could pick up any sign of a well used trail and set up a trail cam. I was sure he was several hundred yards away when I heard the unmistakable sound of claws on bark. i looked up and watched as he shot 35 feet up a cottonwood, 30 yards away and stared straight at me broadside. I couldn't believe what I saw and took a few seconds before composing myself for the shot. I trained my new HHA single pin slider on his heart and squeezed the shoulder blades. I knew right away it was perfect. He barely flinched and 5 seconds later fell backwards, stone dead from the tree. The Montec 100 grain did unbelievable damage and was responsible for my cleanest kill to date. He measured out at five eleven and had a gorgeous coat, claws and a bonus white chevron on his chest. I end my Blackbear career a happy man. On to the next. Good luck this spring gents, hope your all as fortunate as I was this spring.

Great job, Nice looking bear, and its good to see someone getting a bear this year. Seems like a lot of hunters are not having much luck or they are not sharing their info.
Thanks again for sharing.

Right on man, nice bear I'm guessing Vancouver Island?? Shouldn't be your last, there's lotsa black bear in BC, plenty to go around and not alot of hunter interest..BTW I'm in the Okanagan and have been out lots but just saw my first bear droppings of the year yesterday..

Great share!
I had similiar expeience previous with rifle, seen a bear cross the road into timber, decided to pursue , got 40 yards in and watched him climb a tree for safety, band/flop.

Thanks guys. I shoot a Matthews Maniac at 64 pounds. HHA single pin Optimizer with a fall away. Victory 350 65/70's with 100 grain Montec fixed blades for the cutters. This bear was taken along the Nass River north of Terrace. I am looking for a Taxi so if anyone has suggestions. I hear there is one in Smithers with a good reputation.
