No GPS coordinates for you but a clue, it's only 15 minutes from my house in Kelowna.

I gotta hike into one of my moose spots and see if there are fresh scrapes, would be year number 5 or 6 for the bull that lives in there. Just gotta get that LEH...

It's not where you think. I can cover a lot of ground 15 minutes from my place.

Normal if your as tall as a moose.

So, are those from last fall or more recent? And, judging by the similar shaped black marks on the trees, it looks as if there's more than one year's worth of scraping here. Am I right?

Sorry to burst anyones bubble but hey're not scrapes. Moose tend to feed on aspen bark later in winter when food is scarce. Bite occurs at the bottom and then bark is more or less peeled off upwards as you can see in photo's.

Interesting, I've definately found where they've pushed down young aspens to get to the browse at the top. I guess it follows that there should be fresh marks in that Aspen grove right about now if they eat bark in the winter, the marks I found were fresh in Sept. I'll go have a look and post some pics for your opinion, I'm curious. Cheers

Both Moose and Elk eat Aspen bark, usually but not only in the winter. The first pic in the OP looks like a scrape, the rest are feeding marks.

BCrams you're 100% correct. I hiked out there today and you're right, tooth marks near the bottom stripped up. Lots of fresh moose pellets, my bull is still there, he'd be about 6 years old now, prime shape. I found three years worth of Aspen striplings in sept '10 (I estimate from how much the tree 'healed' itself) and now fresh ones over 2 years later. Some of the marks show the teeth really clearly, I'm trying to figure out how to attach a picture from my iPhone.
