Hi everyone,

I am a first time hunter and am planning a turkey trip to the Okanagan for May 4 weekend. I have a ragtag team of new hunters together for the trip and we have been doing a lot of research to prepare and come up with a plan. One thing we are not clear on is how to keep any meat we harvest fresh, particularly if we get a bird on the first day (which would be a great bit of luck) and stay out for a day or two more. Does gutting and hanging do the job or should we salt it? Also, for a 5 hour drive back would we need a bunch of big coolers with ice? I am worried that we might spoil the meat if we handle it without enough care. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Also, any tips conceding getting on the birds is welcome as we are running a pretty bush league operation at this point!

Thanks in advance!
Ryan

Ryan, you will need a couple of LARGE ziplock bags to put the breasts in to, a cooler and some ice. Then your good to go. Good luck.
