Well I just got my rug back and am wondering how to mount it on the wall? Was told to nail it through the hide into some studs. Will be horizontal. Was also suggested by taxidermist to put like a decorative log or something under the chin to prop the head around a bit to get the face looking out , instead of just down the wall. Will be in my front entrance so will be the first thing to see. Any thoughts?

What I have heard some guys do is trace it out on some plywood, cut the wood to shape, secure it to that and then secure the wood to the wall

I did it by threading key rings through the canvas (taxi guy provided them). The main anchoress have to be in studs or good quality plug...that was upper paw and foot. For the rest simply drive a drywall screw in and hang the ring to spread the weight. I used number of them..one on the head as well.
Once you firmly hang it by front paw it will be easy to determine all other locations for the rings. Once it is hanging use small finishing nails to keep the rest of the canvas close to the wall.

Small finishing nails nailed straight through the felt and hide along the border of rug, taxidermist recommended it and has worked perfect.

I always figured your spending big bucks getting your rug done the taxi should sew in the d rings when he's putting the fabric on the back..

I staple gun (T50) around the border under the first layer of felt (wall side). My rugs have 3 layers of felt, then the backing.

Have to put a few in the neck area too. Just part the hair and staple, brush hair back into place. Works great.

Plywood would be a great idea but a bear rug is bigger than 4x8......might try that for wolves from now on.....paint it black, staple rug down, cut 1" all around, repaint edges....

Buddy has his pinned up with about 20+ push pins. most are in the hair but some are noticeable.

I just used push pins thru the felt into the drywall as well. Probably used a few extra but it seems to hold just fine

finishing nails . thru the hide in strategic places . they hide well and the dont cause any crazy damage , only way to hold up the weight ..
