my 300 weatherby is shooting all over the map at 100yds still within a pie plate but 200yds maybe not, Leaving friday no time help me what do you guys think of my options

Option 1 Take it and Pray!

Option 2 Take my 7x57 mauser 173 grain shoots well But small

Option 3 Bring my fathers 7mm mag still small and can only get 160grain Not much ammo selection in my little town and doesn't look like there will be anytime to sight it in and gun has been on a shelf for 15 years

option 4 bring my ruger 10/22 and go down in history with boon and crocket grizz munching my ass

Could be an interesting weekend watch for headlines in the province!! LOL

Take the Mauser, if it shoots straight a well placed bullet will do the job.

Option #1 is NOT the best idea - prob option # 3 -the 7MM Mag if it shoots straight will be fine with a good 160 gr bullet - Maybe NEXT time prepare a little SOONER !  LOL RJ

I've killed griz with 160 gr bullets out of my 7mmRM, no problemo. So have my buddies. Deal with your weatherby after bear season.

Why is your gun shooting like that?

Have the other guns been taken out and fired this season as well? Have you shot them just recently like you did your 300? I would stick with the gun you know, my 308 did that a couple years ago and I took it to the gunsmith the day before I left, turned out to be a loose screw on my scope. Re sighted when I got up to our destination and had a fantastic trip.

Why is your gun shooting like that?

Thats what I was wondering, when's the last time you shot it,what kind of scope&mounts, what kind of bullets ?? so many questions ?

Did you drive over it with the truck !

A can of wipeout might fix it. Different box of bullets is a little more expensive.

I second the 7mm with 160 gr TSX from personal experience. Best of luck with your problem and for your hunt but most of all be safe.

Option 5. Buy a new gun. Seems like the perfect reason to me. Sight it in at 200 and give er!!

Go old school and take the deadly 7x57, loaded with larger for caliber bullet weights. Or any of the copper flavours.
I've shot just about everything in BC but g-bears with mine, and I wouldn't hesitate to use it for that.

Good luck!

Take the 7mm mag and some good bullets but make sure you are very familiar with it.

hmmmm my .338 is out of action this week getting new 225 grain Tsx for bear season..otherwise I would send it for your use.. with your options I would select your 7mm and then get some TSX for it..fire a couple of shots and good to go..I have seen 7mm used on 8 1/2 foot grizzly it worked fine...and that was with the old Nosler Partition...go with the TSX and you will be fine... cheers and straight shooting....steven

1. Clean and take down 300 Wby, check scope mounts, the works. Reassemble. - go re-sight in.

2. Take 7Mag. 160 grn premium bullet is adequate - sight in. TSX, GMX or E-tip or Accubond.

3. If no other option - 7x57, keep ranges reasonable and go for shot placement - take out shoulders.

4. Hail Mary.... BUY A NEW GUN!!! :-P

I would take the 7X57 as you know where it shoots. I would also take the 7mm and if you have time to sight it in then you have your choice. I wouldn't take the 7MM until I at-least knew how how and where it shot. Be kinda like taking a kike to a gun fight. But hey if you do go with an unfermiler rifle please be sure to record the whole hunt.

Since when is a 7 rem mag to small?????

Since when is a 7 rem mag to small?????

Im not sure a 7mm is too small for grizz, the right bullet is more important! However I dont think the 7mm is an ideal big bear caliber. It works for sure, Ive seen. I shoot a 270wsm (a bit hotter than the 7mm) and I just wouldnt go looking for a grizzly with it - That fast small bullet just doenst feel right to me. But like dudes with smaller "calibers" if thats what you got, thats what you gotta use....

The 7 mag became popular over 50 years ago because of its capabilities , wwwwwaaaaayyyyyyy before premium bullets.
Its only modern marketing that says it can't be done without the latest greatest

A ton of elephants fell to the old 7x57, plus a huge number of the other big 5, all this happened way before the supper wizzums and premium bullets showed up.

I would rather hunt with something I know then with something I don't.

Cheers

sorry Jim, I did mean old..as in what I have used in the past...as well as old 7mm ..again used in the distant past..yup both will work..7mm and the Nosler partition...however when I put a rifle together specifically for big bears..I went with the .338..stainless steel...synthetic stock....and Sako (my first Sako weapon) then went with Barnes..TSX...in 225 grain in a custom load worked up by a very competent reloader..sure I would use a 7mm rem mag...I prefer the .338 for bear..and yes I would use the Nosler still have some for the .270....but I prefer the Barnes for bears ...they sure hold together even after smashing big leg bones....ps.coming to 100 mile for travel trailer servicing will try to get some time for coffee??? steven
