I am pretty much decided on a Winchester SX3 but I am trying to decide whether to stick to a 3" wood or go 3 1/2", synthetic, and/or camo?

What are all your thoughts?

I like the synthetic. I have one in the gun cabinet.

I got the synthetic. It comes with a warning not to get deet or sunscreen on te dura coating on the stock or it may come off. I have not had any problems yet. I love my sx3

The DuraCoat is on the metal parts. K

I went 3" synthetic as I have no use for anything bigger, although I had to order it as nobody stocked one in B.C. The only reason I didn't order it in camo is they are hard to find if you lay it down in the marsh. K

It's dura-touch, I see they no longer offer the composite model anymore.

Well ya learn something new everyday, I always thought that it was on the metal. That said, I've had no problems with that coating and I'm pretty liberal when it comes to spraying it down with G96 or CorrosionX and it's held up well. K

ive had a camo model for 3 years now..im terrible with maintenance, use it as a walking stick, a paddle, and occasionally a shot gets fired :)...works every time, no issues.

great gun for the money, when i was looking, reliable was the best deal on the market...but I did buy 3 at once with buddies.

I would go with the camo one for maintenance reasons. Also if your hunting where theres salt water it helps. And its one less thing that sticks out when waterfowling or hunting. Reliable is good to deal with I got my benelli in max4 from them, even gave me a little deal on it. Customer service was top notch.

What are all your thoughts?Might be real handy to know what you intend to use the gun for. Mostly waterfowl 3.5" synthetic camo mostly upland and/or trap 3" wood/blue

I shot and 870 forever but changed over to the auto for punt shooting as it doesn't hurt as bad when you take an off hand shot on yer bicep! That and I'm getting lazy!! :) K

I have a synthetic in 31/2" and the wood version in 3". I used the synthetic extensively without much care in the last 6 years and it's been flawless. The coating on the stock is full of scratches but I could care less, the duracoat has been pretty strong and does a good job of protecting against corrosion. I would not buy the wooden version as a main shotgun, it is very light and look good but the forestock is very thin, I use it exclusively for small game. You have to keep the magazine tube clean under the gas piston or the spring inside can break, this is the only problem I am aware of with this gun.

Thanks for all the input. I bought it in 3" camo. Super excited to take it out and practice for next season! Decided that I didn't need a 3 1/2" and it was also the only one available at the local gun store.

Congrats on the new gun, yer gonna love it and I'm sure yer not gonna regret the 3" choice. The up side is you'll have more money in yer pocket for decoys, calls and such! K

taking a look at the SX3 as well, is there any difference between the synthetic camo and the waterfowl hunter model?
