2013 Spring Turkey Contest Scores

Ok on this is the page I will keep track of the team scores for the turkey contest. You can post your pictures along with the score of your birds here but please keep it to short comments only for the ease of finding the posts with scores. If you want to post longer comments do it on the team threads.

We are using the NWTF scoring method, you can find it on the NWTF website or use the link here - http://www.nwtf.org/all_about_turkeys/turkey_score.html (http://www.nwtf.org/all_about_turkeys/turkey_score.html)

It is your responsibility to post your team # and name when checking in a bird. Along with the score you must post a picture of your bird with the measurements and say if you used a bow or shotgun.

BIRD DOWN.


Got my first turkey this morning at 7:00. He didn't come in the way we thought he would but still got him after a long hike and reset. Once we closed into 100 yards he came running in only stopping to show off and strut his stuff. When he finally gave me somewhat of a clear shot (only three bushes in the way) at 30 yards I gave him both barrels from my 20 gauge side by side.

He weighs 17 lbs 3.2 oz. Left spur 1", right 9/16". Beard 9.25". SCORE 51.325

I want to thank my husband, Nick (BCBrez) for the time he put in to find this bird and for calling it for me, I couldn't have done it without him. As rewarding as it was getting my first turkey it was made even better when I saw how happy and proud Nick was.

All that aside, go team #5. BCBrez your going down, hahhahahaha.

Well back at home and here is th e story.
Opening morning comes and we find ourselves back at thetruck by noon - I never heard or saw a bird and was a littledisappointed. Last year, we ran into multiple birds but just never closedthe deal. Now it was time to touch base, have a quick bite andform a new game plan.
We finished our lunch and started packing everything upwhen I heard a faint gobble down by the creek. I turned to Duck andasked if he had heard that and right when I said it, another much louder gobbleoccurred. I knew he heard that one and we grabbed our gear.
He headed down the ridge towards the creek to setup hisdecoys and call and I moved up the ridge and then cut down towards thecreek when I figured I was in-line with the tom. Another gobbleconfirmed he was close by and on the path I was hoping. Duck was hen callingand had not only my tom going but a jake with it as well.It was quite the show to hear them going on back and forth.
I finally saw movement off to my front and froze. It was30 yards away and he was unaware of my presence. I slowly lifted my12 gauge and took aim at a spot I hoped he would go through. Sure enough heemerged at 25 yards - his head was turned back so there was not ashot yet. I think I actually prayed for him to turn his head around. Twoseconds later, head turns and the old savage barks oncemore.
Measurements:
17lbs 1oz
Right Spur: 5/8 inch
Left Spur: ¾ inch
Beard: 8 inches
Score: 46.8125

the bush. the bird was 18 pounds 2 ounces, spurs 5/8, 5/8 beard 9 5/8 total score 49.875. Picture will be posted. I'm on team 5 bbd, shot him with a bow.

went out this mornig with my dad and was able to put down this big Tom down with my PSE bow
it scored 22.1 lbs beard 9" left spur 6/8 right spur 7/8 = 56.3125!

Nice birds and pictures guys. Scores have been updated and team BTD is still well in the lead with 4 birds and a score of 195.325. CLUCK DYNASTY hit the board this week with 2 big birds with a combined score of 112.0625. Of course I'm still carrying the STOMPIN TOMS with my bird (the biggest bird) with a score of 58.325.

Lets see some more turkey guys.
