Skagit has lots of bears, thick bush off the main but walk the spur roads off main and you will have success. Just dont go on a weekend!!! Any road off the 99 after squamish has bears

Up the Coquihalla, this side of the toll booth, or even the #3.

My suggestion would be to deside if you are after a rug/experience or meat. If you want to eat the bear, steer clear of the bears that feed on fish. ie, any of the feeder drainages/Salmon Rivers/Creeks off the Fraser River to begin with. They do offer the earliest opportunities but are just down right nasty to eat.

Personally I am after both this year. I saw a monster phase colored bear off of the Fraser 2 years ago that I hunted last year but didn't find. I have a friend that wants the meat for his sled dogs so it would be a win win. As for my eating bear it will be one near my cabin in the Cariboo near the end of May. That way it will have plenty of time to sweeten up on grass and put on a bit of fat. Then off to the sausage factory in Lac La Hache.

If I want one I'll just walk up the powerline above my house,or sit in a deck chair and take one in my lower field. Gunner

pardon my ignorance, but what does this side of toll mean?

The old toll booths that are now removed. Pretty much the summit.

I am heading north of PG into the Tacheeda Lake/Anzac/Parsnip area. A buddy of mine has a grizz draw up there and may need some help when he shoots it. My son is looking for a bear bigger than last years, and his best friend is looking for his first bear. Moosin

Don't know of too many places you CAN'T find black bears in the spring.........one of the few hunts that after about the middle of May a guy can see bears on just about every outing.

Tasty bears in 5-2 east of Canim Lake. Some cool colour phases too, just don't shoot a "gazelle" (I assume you meant grizzly?) That's where I'll be.

Should we tell him the greater Vancouver zoo isn't a high fence hunt?

I'm going to my spot. I've never seen a bear there, but I haven't ever seen another hunter.

I'll be looking to take a bear close to home here in the Creston valley. Hope to get one later on up high in the alpine if the snow comes off early enough but I will be trying down in the valleys earlier on. I would really like to go on a short backpack trip for spring bear but that will be dependent on the melt. I'm not looking for a mount or a rug(might get a home tanning kit) but I'm curious to try bear meat and I would like the skull for the garden.

I came across one particular blackie several times last year when I was hiking around and in deer season. I'm sure he is the resident fawn killer of the area I have never seen one as big as this guy. But at the same time I may try my luck at a few wolves in the same area that I just learned about
